KALLE MATTSON’S “AVALANCHE” VIDEO
Polaris Music Prize-nominated Canadian songwriter Kalle Mattson’s video for “Avalanche” is premiering today via NPR Music’s First Watch. Filmed in one day on a sound stage in Toronto, the video features Mattson recreating the covers of 35 classic albums that influenced his work. Mattson and the crew sourced props, costumes and more to faithfully stage iconic covers including Ramones’ Ramones, Jay Z’s The Blueprint, Elliott Smith’s Figure 8, The Clash’s London Calling and many more. Watch the video, taken from Mattson’s highly-anticipatedAvalanche EP, here. Avalanche is out August 21 on HOME Music Co.
DENNIS RAMOON “READY FOR THE BREAKDOWN”
Dutch producer Dennis Ramoon is back on his own label, Midnight Funk with ‘Ready For The Breakdown’, a jacking pumped up number that stays true to his signature bassy style.
SILVERSUN PICKUPS TURN ON “NIGHTLIGHT”
Silversun Pickups will herald their much-anticipated fourth studio album with an array of high profile activity. BETTER NATURE will be released September 25th via the band’s own New Machine Recordings.
IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE NEW SONG
By far, being one of the most intense hymns in the entire lifespan of In Twilight’s Embrace, ‘Dystopian’ offers an accurate representation of what the new album stands for both music and lyrics-wise. It’s three minutes of pure Death Metal earthquake, untamed yet haunting with outbursts of dismal melody. As all the other songs on ‘The Grim Muse’, this one manifests the overall feeling of disillusion, doubt and departure from modern paradigm of life.
DIVIDES ALBUM STREAM
The post-hardcore quintet DIVIDES will be releasing their heart-pounding debut album Brokentooth on 8/11, but the good folks over at Idobi Radio are giving you a chance to hear it early. The album is a follow-up to their 2013 EP Departures and is their first release since their relocation to Portland, OR from their homes in Alaska. The record was mixed and mastered by Casey Bates who is know for his work with Portugal. The Man and Chiodos.
“Brokentooth is DIVIDES in a bare-knuckle boxing match against the demons we left behind on Departures. We wanted to be ferocious and unflinching so we could create an album that will leave the listener bruised and bloody, but more alive than ever.”
WOLF EYES NEW SINGLE
Post-industrial/noise group Wolf Eyes have signed to Third Man Records, and are set to release their new album ‘I Am A Problem: Mind In Pieces’ on October 30. Hear the album’s first single “Enemy Ladder” over at Pitchfork.
GRATEFUL DEAD’S MICKEY HART, BILL KREUTZMANN AND BOB WEIR FORM “DEAD & COMPANY”
Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir have joined forces with Grammy Winning singer/guitarist John Mayer to form the band Dead & Company. The band will take the stage at the legendary Madison Square Garden on Halloween night, October 31, 2015 and will perform two sets of music drawing largely from the Dead’s historic catalog of songs.
The Grateful Dead reunited earlier this summer for Fare Thee Well, a run of five sold-out stadium shows celebrating the Dead’s 50th anniversary as well as marking the last time the “core four” members Hart, Kreutzmann, Weir, and bassist Phil Lesh would perform together. (Lesh will continue to perform in his band “Phil and Friends.”) The shows were a record-setting success, and ignited enthusiasm for more concerts featuring Grateful Dead members. “There is a place where music, dreams and magic come together,” says band member Mickey Hart. “Grateful Dead music is a portal to that place. It was built to last!”
FIONA GRAY “WHAT YOU WANT”
After a busy summer filled with sold out performance dates, fashion magazine shoots, and filming ABC Family’s Switched At Birth, Los Angeles-based indie-pop songwriter Fiona Grey has released her newest single, What You Want, which will be included on her upcoming EP currently scheduled for released this Fall. The single What You Want, glistens with heartfelt lyrics driven by electronic beats that demands to be heard loud and clear. Filled with edgy melodies and introspective lyrics, What You Want is Fiona’s most personal composition to date.
What You Want is, at its heart, an airing of grievances aimed at would-be romantic interests too indecisive, too preoccupied or simply too intimidated to commit to. “Hold me a little bit closer,” belts Fiona in her signature dusky timbre. “Show me you’re a little bit stronger or you’re never gonna get what you want.”
“WE ARE ALL WHORES”
Glam rock rat pack Gene Dante and The Future Starlets released the video for their new single “We Are All Whores” earlier today which premiered exclusively on Vanyaland.
“[It’s] a metaphor for the hangers-on/fairweathered fans that inevitably show up once something becomes en vogue,” Dante explained to Vanyaland. “Curious people venture into a glittering black box and have a great time until, quite literally, plastic invaders show up. Jem & The Holograms (the wonderful ’80s cartoon, not the soon-to-be released abomination) meets Dr. Who, by way of a dark alley.”
GRACE & TONY TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM
Husband-and-wife duo Grace & Tony are set to release their next album, Phantasmagoric (a favorite word of Edgar Allen Poe’s meaning “out of this world”) on September 25, 2015. Featuring 10 tracks that sound as if they belong in a macabre Broadway musical, the album is rife with dramatic tales of plagues, serial killers, mass suicide, Frankenstein’s nameless creation and similar subjects so inherently theatrical that they’d be right at home in a Sondheim or Brecht-Weill classic.
The Loretto, TN-based pair recorded Phantasmagoric at Sheffield, AL (aka Muscle Shoals) recording studio Jimmy Nutt’s Nutthouse. Nutt, who co-produced the album with Tony, was recommended by Tony’s brother, John Paul White (of Civil Wars fame). “Jimmy really pushed our limits and got the most out of us,” says Tony; that included putting the whole band together in the studio to give the album its very-much-live feel.
CRIZYG “SHAWTY LEMONADE”
CrizyG was born in Dallas, Tx and music has always been a part of his life. It wasn’t until his early years of high school when he developed a talent for writing lyrics. Soon afterwards, Crizy started to record his own music as a hobby. His peers eventually heard a few recordings and quickly asked him for CD’s to buy and share with friends. CrizyG booked his first show in Dallas as an opening act for former XXL Freshman Artist, Hopsin, in 2012 during his Funk Volume Tour. Since then, CrizyG has performed with artists like CyHi The Prynce, Chevy Woods, Yung Nation, Dizzy Wright, Vinny Cha$e and many more while building a name for himself. CrizyG spent 2013 booking shows all over Dallas from the 97.9 The Beat DUB Car Show, to some of the hottest clubs and venues in the city.
THE DEARS NEW LYRIC VIDEO
“Believe it or not, this is our very first ‘lyric video.’ We asked our pal Sinbad (Omega Dog video director) to create something special, something that would appeal to everyone, young and old. What he delivered was a ‘lyric video+’ that made Natalia [Yanchak – band keyboardist and Murray’s wife], cry the first time she saw it.” – Murray Lightburn
JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON SCORES UPCOMING DENIS VILLENUEVE FILM SICARIO
Varèse Sarabande will release the SICARIO: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on September 18, 2015, the same day that the Lionsgate film premieres in limited release before opening nationwide on Sept. 25. The film is directed by Denis Villenueve, and the album features original music by Academy Award nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING, PRISONERS). SICARIO debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, earning rave reviews for both the film and the score. Vanity Fair Magazine called the score “rumbling, evocative” and “he [Jóhannsson] has a wonderful knack for balancing eye-popping technical flourishes with more organic texture and mood.” SICARIO is Jóhannsson’s second collaboration with director Denis Villeneuve, for whom he scored the 2013 film PRISONERS.

DARKSTAR NEW VIDEO FOR “PIN SECURE”
Following the recent announcement of their new album Foam Island, Darkstar unveil the striking video for lead track “Pin Secure”. An unsettling mixture of dark humor, social satire and a surreal bent, it manages to simultaneously bring to mind the emotive dystopia of TV series “Black Mirror” and the feeling of unrest that ties the songs on Foam Island together. The video finds the band manning the checkouts of a late-night supermarket, in neon-lit mundanity – along with a cast of fellow workers, some unusual customers and one very demanding boss.
DARKWAVE OUTFIT NEW LIFE SHARE FIRST SINGLE
Brooklyn-based New Life is pleased to release their first single “God Will Never Come For Us,” a track about seduction, darkness, lust and desire. Blending contemporary indie rock with a layer of 80’s new wave, New Life craft dark soundscapes bringing to mind comparisons to Depeche Mode and Joy Division. “I started forming the idea for this new project at the tail end of 2014 when I wanted to take my songwriting and production in a different direction to do something I’ve never done before,” explains Andrew Marr, the songwriter and creative force. “Recording in my studio while using synths, drum machines and samples for the first time opened up a new world to help me develop new darker sonic textures.”
GUSTER Q&A ON HUFFPO
This fall, Guster gives back by inviting local college and high school bands to open for them during their November run of tour dates.
“Opening for national acts was a huge deal for us back when we were a college band named Gus. We were lucky enough to grab gigs supporting Jackopierce, Rusted Root, and Live before we even graduated from Tufts.”
THE DIVIDENDS NEW SINGLE
On their new single “Summer Glo,” The Dividends capture a moment of bliss, a warm weather sort of peace that any listener who’s been outdoors in the last three months should know very well. Built of acrobatic keyboard hits and bass that flows fast despite its syrupy texture, the neo-R&B track deals in deep escape; this is the sound of sunlight as it hits the water and breaks into a thousand jewels. A song to spend your vacation days with.

BAEB RXXTH “GUTTER”
Sliding in, making hits, and breaking records are all qualities that baeb rxxth aims to have in common with its namesake. Trap-pop co-producers Devon Craig Johnson and Nasimiyu Murumba met in 2013 in New York at one of Devon’s long-held Chinatown dance parties, and the two instantly started nerding out about hip hop, songwriting, and production gear.
“I think of us as a production team. We’re side-by-side on drum machines, samplers, and synth bass keyboards, building these big fun, sound houses to shelter what had begun as just my weird little singer/songwriter piano demos,” notes Nasimiyu, whose solo project, Dirt, won acclaim from Vogue, NYLON, Afropunk, SPIN, Rookie, and Interview magazine in 2014.

Now, the collection’s five tracks bristle with an unshakable energy and swaggering charm. First single “Fashion” straddles the lines between funk, indie, and pop, converging on an anthemic refrain.
PUFF DADDY & THE FAMILY’S ‘FINNA GET LOOSE’ FT. PHARRELL WILLIAMS
Today, Puff Daddy drops the highly-anticipated music video for current single, ‘Finna Get Loose’ ft. Pharrell Williams, exclusively on Apple Music. Fans of the song have been eagerly awaiting the video’s full release since last week, when Puff Daddy previewed a 40 second trailer on social media. The Hype Williams-directed video finds Puff Daddy and Pharrell getting loose in an underground club, performing the beat-heavy hit with a live band and dancers. The result is a rowdy, monochromatic blowout, with Pharrell’s rap-rock vocals hyping the crowd into a frenzied mosh pit.

Their frenetic yet polished live performances are matched with an onstage charm and wit that has seen Berlin Blue garner a steady following and turn heads at key Sydney venues such as Oxford Art Factory and The Annandale Hotel.
