SKOPE NEWS FOR JUNE 2, 2015

THE VELVET TEEN RELEASE NEW SONG “ECLIPSES”

Being released on Tuesday, June 30, All Is Illusory marks the band’s fourth album and is the long-awaited and elegant follow-up to 2006’s Cum Laude! that was recorded and co-produced by Steve Choi (Rx Bandits, Peace’d Out) and Roger Camero (No Motiv, Peace’d Out). From its gorgeous, dizzying electronics to its harder, angular, ’90s-leaning flourishes of grunge, indie and emo, All Is Illusory is a welcome return for a band whose varied influences are still very much intact after its short silence. Check out a stream of “Eclipses” over at NPR Music HERE.

NEW SINGLE BY THE GLITCH MOB

On the cusp of their headlining performance at Austin’s X Games alongside Metallica and Nicki Minaj, The Glitch Mob release their new single “Better Hide, Better Run (ft. Mark Johns),” from their forthcoming 3-track EP ‘Piece of the Indestructible,’ out June 9 on The Glitch Mob’s Glass Air imprint.

Inspired by the notion that music can make you feel indestructible and allow for transcending limitations (for example, read the story of Grant Korgan), ‘Piece of the Indestructible’ is a mix of the stadium-ready style of their recent releases and the more spacey, introspective vibe of their first album Drink The Sea.

THIRD MAN RECORDS & SHINOLA PARTNER TO PURCHASE BUILDING IN DETROIT’S CASS CORRIDOR

On June 1st, Shinola founder Tom Kartsotis partnered with Detroit-native Jack White to purchase the building that currently houses the Shinola Flagship store at 441 W. Canfield in Detroit’s Cass Corridor. The deal marks new expansion for both Shinola as well as Jack White’s record label Third Man Records. For Third Man, this is a homecoming of sorts, since the label was originally founded in Detroit in 2001. This expansion signals the opening of their first retail store and offices outside of Nashville, TN. The new retail space is set to be in operation by Black Friday (November 27th, 2015), with many special surprises in store.

For Shinola, the deal comes on the heels of the brand’s investment into yet another category, rapidly honing in on the ability to manufacture speakers, turntables and headphones of audiophile quality, while creating more manufacturing jobs in the US — a top priority for the innovative and quality-focused company.
