OAKLAND TRIO MALL WALK PREMIERES B-SIDE “CONTAINER” VIA NOISEY

Last October, Oakland trio MALL WALK released its eponymous debut EP, five briskly minimal tracks that foregrounded the bass and drum contributions of Daniel Brown and Nicholas Clark, respectively, and nodded to punk and post-punk precedents. Alternately infectious and gritty, spare and expansive, the EP introduced a band both compulsively listenable and exceptionally sophisticated. It was released on cassette tape through singer/guitarist Rob I. Miller’s Vacant Stare Records and engineered by Monte Vallier (Weekend, The Soft Moon, Terry Malts). I

Swedish death metal overlords, ENTRAILS, will unleash the putrid fruits of their newest studio offering this May via Metal Blade Records. Featuring nine mangled tracks of sonic malevolence, Obliteration carries on the torch of true, oldschool Swedish brutality.

THE NEW STUDIO ALBUM FROM THE INDIGO GIRLS

It has been four years since the Indigo Girls released a new studio album. On June 2nd, their much-anticipated release ONE LOST DAY, will be available on IG Recordings/Vanguard Records. With the help of visionary new producer Jordan Brooke Hamlin (Lucy Wainwright Roche) and mixer Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, PHOX, Kathleen Edwards), Amy Ray and Emily Sailers have created a landscape of truly original sounds and stories ranging from stark intimacy to bombastic pop and grind.

On ONE LOST DAY, musicality, whimsy, rawness, sadness and joy move through each of the 13 tracks. This theme is especially evident on the first single, “Happy in the Sorrow Key,” written by Amy Ray. “I drew from lyrics I wrote during some of my travels with the IG’s,” Amy said. “I was thinking about the things that keep us weighed down with non-acceptance and a refusal to embrace impermanence and suffering. I don’t think you can make change for the good until you do, so it’s an activist part of me searching for a way to face reality and still have the energy and passion to work for good.”

SUPERHEAVEN VIDEO “I’VE BEEN BORED”

Being in a band can be a lot of things. It can be fun. It can be exciting. It gives you the chance to meet new people all the time. It lets you travel the country and, if you’re really lucky, the world with some of your closest friends. It can give you experiences that little else can. But it can also be hard work. It can be exhausting. It takes up a lot of time and energy. Because, if you do it for the right reasons, you put your entire heart and soul into it. You let it swallow you whole. That’s exactly what Superheaven did with its 2013 debut, Jar – released when the band was called Daylight – and it’s precisely what it has done with the follow-up Ours Is Chrome.
