SKOPE NEWS FOR MARCH 18, 2015

LAURA DOGGETT “KING” MASH UP

Laura says – “The Years&Years shows were so much fun; Heaven is a really cool venue and the audiences on both nights were ready to have a good time and welcomed me warmly. When covering ‘King’, I chose to mash it up with ‘Zephyr Song’ by Red Hot Chili Peppers because both, to me, speak of addiction and the longing to be free. What they really mean, I do not know – but I was inspired by the lyrics of both. ‘Don’t you remember how I used to like being on the line/I am a king under your control’ (King – Years and Years) & ‘Picking up, but not too strong for you/ Take a piece and pass it on/What a night to fly my kite on’ – (RHCP- The Zephyr Song). Together they make awesome sense and I love doing mashups – it’s a challenge to combine the stories of two songs.”

G.C. “DON’T SLEEP ON ME”

G.C. describes his new song as “an anthem for any upcoming artist or person who feels they don’t get the recognition they deserve and they’re ready to show and prove. The song came about when I was working on this project and knew I needed something powerful so I hooked up with Jordan River Banks and the song came out so crazy I made it the title track to my EP.”

CORY KENDRIX “WAX ON”

Oregon-born, Denver-based artist Cory Kendrix teams up with Red Bull Music Academy 2013 graduate Anna Love and Austin DJ/videographer Tha Real Chino for their new music video off the 2014 EP “Worth Something.” Cory was recently nominated by the Denver Westword for best solo hip-hop act in Colorado and will be performing March 21st in Austin for SXSW at Optimo Radio’s 5th Anniversary showcase alongside Screwed Up Click member Lil Flip, Dallas rap legends Dirty South Rydaz and Academy Award winner DJ Paul of Three Six Mafia.

SALT ASHES “RAIDED”

On the video, Salt Ashes (aka Veiga Sanchez) said: “The initial vision I had for the video was an old car at night, with freaky dancers moving in front of the headlights. I wanted to create something with a dark B-movie, late-night kind of vibe… probably because I’d been watching a lot of Neo-noir, thriller movies at the time. Debbie Scanlan and Liz Adams were my first choice of directors, having worked with them on the ‘If You Let Me Go’ video I knew they’d bring everything and more. I’m totally addicted to their ideas and having worked closely with Debbie a few times I feel like she completely understands my visions and augments them with her brilliance. We wanted to create something trippy and surreal with the idea of allowing the viewer to decide what is and isn’t reality.”

SEAN C JOHNSON SPEAKS ON ‘CIRCA 1993’

“When I was kid I loved reading comic books. The issues I enjoyed the most were the ones that told a heroes origin story. This album is my “origin story”. While I’m no hero, I do have a story to tell and my story was shaped by four events that all happened…in 1993.:

* Death of my mother.
* Falling in love with music.
* Viewing pornographic material for the first time.
* Giving my life to Christ.

Each song on the album will be told through the lens of these four events and give listeners a peak into what shaped me.”

JOHN CONLEE SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM

Fans of one of Country Music’s most distinctive song stylists have new reason to exclaim with delight as veteran performer John Conlee returns to the radio with the emotional single “Walkin’ Behind The Star,” released on his own RCR (Rose Colored Records) label.

The song was written by Nashville industry veterans Ronnie Scaife and Phil Thomas, who collaborated on the Johnny Paycheck hits “Colorado Cool Aid” and “Me and the IRS” together. The touching lyrics were inspired by Phil’s grandfather and great-grandfather, both of whom served in their local sheriff’s department. The song had yet to be cut until recent events made the song a little timelier, and the song was pitched to the Grand Ole Opry star, who was touched by the song’s honesty.
