POLARIS ROSE “BLUE”
Madelynn Elyse takes the lead, allowing her breathless vocals to spin across the beat that thumps beneath Peter Anthony’s driving guitars. Masters of high and low dynamics, one moment there’s a static loudness blasting through the atmosphere, and next comes vocals and drums humming together in gentle reflection. It’s a trademark sound for a band that doesn’t shy away from experimentation in the pursuit of their unique voice. The meandering melody crashes right on through to the chorus, with Madelynn and Peter’s voices rising together like a tidal wave of sound, pouring over the thrash of the drums in a smattering of perfect harmony. CHEATAHS “SUNNE” SONG PREMIERE VIA STEREOGUM
“Sunne” drives forward, infused with whirring tones and tape-worn melodies while popping in all the right places. “Sunne is partly an attempt to encapsulate the feelings I had when I read [Hemingway’s] The Sun Also Rises, a book that had quite a profound effect on me,” says guitarist James Wignall. “We ran the guitars through a very cheap and slightly broken recorder onto old cassette tape, which evokes a bittersweet end-of-day feeling, as if the sun were setting.”
