PAPERCUP MUSIC ANNOUNCE A SLEW OF NEW SIGNINGS
Brooklyn-based independent record label PaperCup Music has announced a slew of new signings to their roster, including Gal Pals, Needle Points, Suburban Living and The Muscadettes, with plans to release music from all four between later this year and early 2015. PALM GHOSTS NEW ALBUM POSTED
Philadelphia-based Indie Americana group Palm Ghosts are pleased to announce the release of their debut record on Philly-based label Surreal Soundworks.
Combining the classic pop songwriting of Elliott Smith and Paul Simon with the dark American folk of Townes Van Zandt on their debut album, Palm Ghosts, the band presents eight introspective stories about love and loss. Following the release of his recent Record Store Day exclusive single “Gimme Some Skin”/”Open Up & Bleed,” The Stooges’ James Williamson has just released his second single today from his forthcoming solo album Re-Licked.
On it, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist has enlisted The Bellrays’ vocalist Lisa Kekaula for the songs “I Gotta Right” (originally penned by Iggy Pop circa 1970) and “Heavy Liquid” (written by Pop & Williamson circa ’73). Backed by the driving force of Steve Mackay, Mike Watt & drummer Toby Dammit (all from the live touring version of The Stooges), along with backing vocals from Petra Haden, Williamson’s snarling, incendiary guitar riffs spar perfectly with Kekaula’s own soul-shaking, hair-raising vocal deliveries on these two early Stooges rarities.

TEF POE SPEAKS ON RIOTS IN ST LOUIS
Unarmed 19-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Mo. on Saturday night. Although local law enforcement claims Brown assaulted an officer, the community isn’t buying this story, calling Brown’s death a civil rights violation. Riots rage in Ferguson, where the police have attempted to quell the town with a curfew. Activist and rapper Tef Poe joins co-hosts Jacob Soboroff and Meghan McCain live from Ferguson to discuss what’s happening on the ground. “In the area where Michael Brown died, its a complete war zone. It’s literally like Baghdad,” Poe says.
When Soboroff asks him to elaborate, Poe says, “There’s bombs going off, you hear assault rifle fire. There’s tear gas, there’s tanks. There’s police in body armor. There’s every single police municipality in St. Louis is over there.”
