With her third album, roots-pop singer/songwriter Jessica Campbell proves there’s strength in numbers.
Largely produced by Cason Cooley (Ingrid Michaelson, Katie Herzig), III captures Campbell in an adventurous mood, looking to build something new on top of the foundation that’s always anchored her music. She’s still a genre bender, with songs rooted in pop hooks, Americana influences, folk guitars and just the slightest hint of Southern twang. She’s still a storyteller, too, armed with autobiographical tunes about life and love in the Bible Belt. Even so, things have changed since her previous album, The Anchor & the Sail, which found the newly-married Campbell reflecting on a lifetime of past loves — including plenty of heartbreak and hard lessons. This time around, she’s taking stock of the sunny present.

NEW MEDICINE NEW LYRIC VIDEO
The cure for the generic cold that has hit rock music wasn’t born in a laboratory, but in Minneapolis. Alternative rock quartet New Medicine is gearing up to release their sophomore album, Breaking The Model, on August 25th via Imagen Records. From the intro piano and strings melody of album opener “Breaking the Model” to the final chords of album closer “Boy Like Me,” it is clear that frontman and songwriter Jake Scherer wanted to create something different than the band’s previous work. Grabbing elements from various musical influences from all genres of music, Breaking The Model shows a definite progression in the sound that the band showcased on their debut, Race You To The Bottom.

Midnight Masses, the band of Autry Fulbright (accompanied by Jason Reece) from …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, released their debut album Departures this week and to celebrate that, they’ve also released a short film entitled Now Here is Nowhere that was written by Fulbright and directed and produced by Natasha Kermani. The film stars Jaleel Bunton (TV On the Radio) who also contributed to the debut album and Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Rival Schools, Gorilla Biscuits). All the music in the film is by Autry Fulbright, performed by Midnight Masses, including several tracks from the debut EP and album as well as exclusive material.

HEFFRON DRIVE IN MEXICO CITY
Heffron Drive will play the band’s debut show in Mexico City on October 4th at El Plaza Condesa, a recently refurbished venue that is a celebrated part of Mexico City nightlife. Mexico is home to one of Schmidt’s largest fan bases and also happens to be one of his favorite countries to perform.
