DOSS POSTS NEW EP
Doss’ self-titled debut EP is out this week on Acéphale, an impressive collection of tracks that Pitchfork praised by noting: “What it shares with her earlier remixes is a foundation that leans toward the jungle/drum’n’bass end of the spectrum … But “The Way I Feel”, along with the rest of Doss’ self-titled debut EP, is a lot dreamier … The EP maintains a similar sense of propulsion but with a markedly lighter touch, its four tracks gliding effortlessly through the air.”

LEGENDARY DRUMMER GINGER BAKER’S FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 16 YEARS
Ginger Baker was once considered the musician least likely to survive the ‘60s. And yet, in 2014, he finds himself on the ascent. The award-winning 2012 documentary Beware of Mr. Baker brought renewed attention to his singular music, fiery and self-destructive personality, and dramatic life story. Ironically, his extreme adventurousness and impulsivity–evidenced, for example, by his leaving England and moving to Nigeria in 1970 to play and record music–are the same qualities that helped make him such a versatile and continually evolving musician. Baker has long ranked among the world’s greatest drummers, and critics have deemed his recent live shows with his quartet, Jazz Confusion, some of the best work of his career. On June 24, Motéma Music releases Why?, his first new recording in 16 years, coinciding with a thirteen-date North American tour with Jazz Confusion June 14-30.

REST IN PEACE ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION’S PAUL GODDARD
The members of the Atlanta Rhythm Section are sad to announce that Paul Goddard, our bass player and a founding member of the band, died today after a brief, sudden illness.
Paul was 68.
Paul was frequently singled out for the flawless and tasteful tone of his Rickenbacker 4001 and Fender P bass guitars on ARS’s string of hit singles, which began in 1977 and included “So in to You,” “Imaginary Lover,” “I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight,” “Do It Or Die” and a remake of the Classics IV’s “Spooky.” Rolling Stone magazine voted his bass solo on “Another Man’s Woman,” from the 1978 ARS live album “Are You Ready” as one of the top five bass solos of all time.
CUPID FOLLOW’S UP “CUPID SHUFFLE”
Remember the “Cupid Shuffle?” – 2007’s breakout dance craze that literally invaded every club, wedding reception and party across the nation for years? If you didn’t know how to do it, you were left sitting on the sidelines; even your Granny was getting down. Well, the multi-platinum artist behind it, Cupid, has a follow-up with all of the elements to rival its hugely popular predecessor called “Wham Dance” featuring none other than Crescent City legends, Mystikal and DJ Ro. The visual for “Wham Dance” plays like a scene from HBO’s “Treme” and is surely a prediction of the nation’s response to this incredibly catchy tune. After all, we’re talking about the man who broke the Guiness Book of World Records in 2008 for the largest line dance assembled with a whopping 17K people. Shot in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, the visual to “Wham Dance” will make you feel like Mardi Gras has been blasted straight to your speakers. Better get to learning this dance now or you are sure to be the sad and lonely wallflower nursing a drink at your cousin’s wedding this Summer.

American Idol Ruben Studdard is speaking out in an ad defending congressional candidate Clay Aiken and his run to represent North Carolina’s Second Congressional District.
In a television ad released last week, Aiken’s Democratic primary opponent misrepresented Aiken’s attendance record and participation on a presidential commission eight years ago and accuses Aiken of a lack of commitment to the needs of children with disabilities.
“Truth is, Clay’s dedicated his life to people with disabilities,” Studdard said in the ad released by Aiken’s campaign. “He received his college degree in special education. He taught children with autism. And Clay agreed to support the presidential commission to help people with intellectual disabilities because he believed so strongly in its work.”
