WIRE: SAMUEL L COOL J’S “SLIP AND SLIDE”

After taking out Bernardo and Tony in a deadly knife rumble, Haendel Balzora and Joel Marquard were thrust into leadership positions in their respective posses. After decades of gang-related crimes committed toward one another, Officer Krupke, along with a city judge, sentenced the two to months of agonizing community service. Their punishment was to free the world of hatred and anger by writing and performing music that could get people on their feet–shakin’ those hips. Over the course of collaboration, Haendel and Joel found that, although affiliated with rival gangs, they had formed a powerful friendship and even more powerful songwriting team. Along with help of several fellow crewmembers, the duo formed a band that could pack a punch with which no chains or brass knuckles could ever compare!

WIRE: QUNQ’S “HYP” DEBUTS ON IMPOSE

Los Angeles, CA band ‘QunQ’ technically has no name. In the spirit of Prince circa 1994 the post-math trio is represented by a symbol/logo instead of a traditional word. This is perhaps a satiric critique of the commoditization of Independent music or a last ditch effort at uniqueness in a musical landscape of misspelled and double lettered buzz bands.

WIRE: MINIATURE TIGERS’ “OBLIVIOUS” LYRIC VIDEO

The sound is important but nothing is more important than the feeling of the sound. When Charlie Brand (vocals, guitar) was writing the newest Miniature Tigers record, he looked to the sum of his musical influences for inspiration. “I wanted to make something like Weezer’s Blue Album–not exactly the album, but the feeling of listening to that album at age whatever. Something with that feeling that could connect with people.” That’s how the band had started, after all: When he and founding member Rick Schaier (keys) connected over Myspace in the mid-’00s through their love of the same bands. After a few albums, they brought on Algernon Quashie (guitar) and Brandon Lee (bass) to complete the band.
