In his native Mississippi and throughout the South, Jimbo Mathus is recognized as the prolific songwriter of born-in-the-bone American music, the torchbearer for Deep South mythology and culture. The Grammy-nominated musician and guitarist, co-founder of the defunct hyper ragtime outfit Squirrel Nut Zippers and South Memphis String Band as well as collaborator with the likes of the Dickinson Brothers and Buddy Guy, has signed to Oxford, MS-based label Fat Possum Records.
Jimbo Mathus – “In The Garden”
Recorded at Delta Recording Services Studio with producer Eric “Roscoe” Ambel (Steve Earle), White Buffalo will be released on January 22, 2013. Opening with the mandolin-driven Southern Gothic fable “In the Garden,” Mathus and his band, the Tri-State Coalition, deliver an rawly emotional of songs that embrace the richness of American music — gospel, country, Delta blues and folk. Mathus’ “tri-state” band, a formidable group of like-minded players, includes Matt Pierce (Arkansas), Terrence Bishop (Tennessee), and fellow Mississippians Eric Carlton and Ryan Rogers.
