MTV RADIO’S MORNING FACTS FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 9th, 2010

EMINEM STILL NUMBER ONE ON HOT 100 CHART

Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna keeps pace to stay on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a third straight week.   The song also notches its sixth week at the summit of the Digital Songs chart, selling another 300-thousand downloads last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.   Katy Perry’s former chart-topper, “California Gurls,” remains at number two on the Hot 100, while her new single, “Teenage Dream,” leaps 13 spots to number seven.   Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” holds at number three, while “Airplanes” by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams stays grounded at number four. Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It,” featuring Pitbul climbs one spot to number five.  

BILLBOARD TIDBITS: Mike Posner’s debut single, “Cooler Than Me,” climbs one spot to number six.  
Usher’s “OMG,” featuring will.i.am falls two spots to number ten, while his “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” featuring Pitbull leaps three spots to number nine.   The song marks Usher’s 16th top 10, tying him with Rod Stewart, Hall & Oates, George Michael and Ludacris for 18th among all acts in the history of the Hot 100.

LILY ALLEN SEEN OUT AND ABOUT

Late last week, Lily Allen was spotted out and about for the first time since she confirmed that she is pregnant.   According to various English papers, the singer-songwriter was “all smiles” when seen running around West London.

BEACH BOYS NOT SUING KATY PERRY

There was some talk about the Beach Boys suing Katy Perry for using their classic line “I wish they all could be California girls” in her chart topping single “California Gurls,” put apparently, it was only a rumor.   Beach Boys founding member Mike Love told Entertainment Tonight that “the Beach Boys are definitely not suing Katy Perry” and that they “think her song is great and wish her all the success in the world.”

WILL.I.AM TO RECEIVE THE PRESIDENT’S AWARD

Will.I.Am will be presented with the coveted President’s Award during this year’s Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). The Black Eyed Peas member will be recognized for making contributions that greatly impact the music and entertainment industries.   The event will take place on Friday, September 10th at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Other artists who have been presented with this award include Taylor Swift and Willie Nelson. Congrats!

NKOTB CRUISE

The New Kids on the Block will be cruising with fans from Miami to the Bahamas next year.   The cruise takes place May 12th through the 16th and those who take part can get up close and personal with the guys during the trip.   Fans will board the Carnival Destiny in Miami and cruise to Half Moon Cay and Nassau, Bahamas on the four day outing.   The band will perform and take part in various activities on the cruise.

VOTE FOR BEST ROCK VIDEO FOR THE 2010 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards are just around the corner. The Moonmen will be handed out on September 12th in Los Angeles so now is the time to vote for Best Rock Video. Up this year for the coveted award are Muse for “Uprising,” Paramore for their “Ignorance” clip, “Kings and Queens” by 30 Seconds to Mars, MGMT for their “Flash Delirium” video and Florence and the Machine for “Dog Days are Over.” Get voting now at MTV.com.  

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TO VOICE CARTOON

Justin Timberlake is set to voice a character on the Family Guy spin-off series The Cleveland Show.   Co-creator Rich Appel told Us Weekly that the character of “Terry” “falls in love with a guy voiced by Justin” and it’s “hysterical.”   The episode will air sometime in the forthcoming season.

DRAKE LEAKS TWO NEW SONGS

ALICIA AND SWIZZ HONEYMOONING IN FRANCE

Alicia Keys was spotted with her new husband, Swizz Beatz, honeymooning on a yacht in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France. The couple recently tied the knot during a private ceremony in Corsica. The singer, who is six months pregnant with their first child together, brought her close friend Queen Latifah aboard as well!

COLBIE CAILLAT IS BACK TO TOUR THE STATES

SEPTEMBER ROCKS!

Next month is shaping up to be huge for rock! September sees the release of Weezer’s new album Hurley, Anberlin’s Dark is the Way, Light is a Place as well as Brandon Flower’s first solo album, Flamingo. Also set to come out next month is Linkin Park’s brand new Rick Rubin produced album A Thousand Suns and Interpol’s self-titled fourth studio album.

FANS LOVE NEW KINGS OF LEON

On October 19th, Kings of Leon are set to put out their new album, Come Around Sundown, but a lot of the songs on the album have already been played live on their current tour. How are fans reacting to the new sound? Drummer Nathan Followill told Rolling Stone that some of the new songs are getting better reactions than their older tunes, which he describes as “bittersweet.” Come Around Sundown is out on October 19th.

LADY ANTEBELLUM SELLS OUT IN THE U-K

Lady Antebellum will perform for the first time in the U-K this week, with an additional bonus — a sold out crowd. In a press release, Hillary Scott said, “We’ve been looking forward to going to the U-K all summer! I wish we are able to stay a little longer and travel around, but this will at least be a great introduction for us to the new fans and friends we are making over there.” Back in the U-S, Lady A’s Need You Now is the biggest selling album in all genres so far in 2010. The band will perform at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London on Wednesday.

UNDERWOOD’S NEW SINGLE TO BE “MAMA’S SONG”

Carrie Underwood has confirmed the next single off her Play On album will be “Mama’s Song.” The track is quite fitting after her recent trip down the aisle. The tune describes a sentimental mother-daughter relationship, as the daughter is about to become married. Carrie told the Today show, “I’m just in such a happy place in my life right now and it really seems to fit and that song means more to me than ever.”   American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi co-wrote the song with Carrie and said, “I’m proud of the work we did together and hope that people are touched by the song’s sentiment.”

Today, Whitney Houston will turn 47 years old. Currently, the GRAMMY-winning singer is in talks about recording her eighth studio album.   Her debut record, Whitney Houston, which was released in 1985, became the best-selling debut album by a female artist at the time of its release.   Whitney is one of the world’s highest-selling music artists, having sold over 170-million albums and singles worldwide. We’re sure the legendary singer will celebrate in style!
