KE$HA WANTS TO BE MORE THAN A PARTY GIRL
Ke$ha, who scored a breakout hit with the party anthem “TiK ToK,” wants to be taken seriously. The pop singer, who is one of the year’s top-selling artists and arguably the most successful newcomer, has a party-girl image, which she said is not the accurate. The 23-year-old told Yahoo that she has been misrepresented and actually is a responsible, hard-working person who is not out at nightclubs getting drunk or doing drugs with no underwear. She is not interested in controlling the public opinion of her, but she is interested in her promising career. Her debut single “TiK ToK” shot straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it sat on top for nine consecutive weeks. Her album Animal hit the number one spot on the Billboard charts as well. It has sold over 799-thousand units since its January release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
EMINEM IS NUMBER ONE!
Eminem’s Recovery debuts at number one on the Billboard album chart with a massive 741-thousand copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last week’s number one, Drake’s Thank Me Later, falls to number two, shifting 157-thousand copies. Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed enters at number three with 102-thousand copies. Ozzy Osbourne’s Scream bows at number four with 81-thousand copies, giving the rock legend his seventh top 10 album. The Now 34 compilation drops one slot to number five, while The Roots’ How I Got Over starts at number six. Jack Johnson’s To The Sea slips two rungs to number seven, Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 drops one position to number eight, Sarah McLachlan’s Laws of Illusion descends six spots to number nine and the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack falls six places to number 10.
MILEY CYRUS DEBUTS AT NUMBER THREE
Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed enters at number three on the Billboard album chart, selling over 102-thousand copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Cyrus’ last proper full-length studio album was 2008’s Breakout, which started at number one with 371-thosuand. Since then, she’s charted with three different Hannah Montana releases and the Time Of Our Lives EP.
MICHAEL JACKSON RISES UP THE CHARTS
One year ago, in the wake of Michael Jackson’s death, the “King of Pop” ruled with the top three selling albums in the U-S as Number Ones, The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller ranked at numbers one through three, respectively. This week, as the public commemorated the first anniversary of his death on June 25th, a number of Jackson’s albums see gains on the Billboard album chart. According to Nielsen SoundScan figures, Jackson’s Number Ones album rises 68 spots to number 42, Essential climbs 104 slots to number 52 and Thriller re-enters the chart at number 79.
EMINEM DEBUTS WITH 744K FOR RECOVERY
Despite leaking two weeks early, Eminem’s Recovery album has sold over 744-thousand copies and easily claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The impressive opening sales mark Slim Shady’s sixth consecutive number one and the highest first week-sales of 2010. The disc includes contributions from Rihanna, Pink and Lil Wayne, as well as production from Dr Dre, Just Blaze and Jim Jonsin. The follow-up to Relapse can be purchase today!

ELECTRIC DAISY FESTIVAL UNDER FIRE
According to Billboard, Los Angeles area doctors and the city’s mayor are questioning the use of publicly owned facilities like the L-A Coliseum for concerts and rave events, in the aftermath of the death of a 15-year-old girl and hundreds of injuries at the Electric Daisy Festival last weekend. The 14th annual dance music event drew more than 185-thousand fans over two days check out DJs including Moby, Deadmau5, Basement Jaxx, Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am and more. The Los Angeles Times has reported that 226 injuries were reported at the event, 114 of which required attention at hospitals. A 15-year-old girl died Tuesday from injuries related to a drug overdose. Fox 11 News is reporting that the girl’s family today decided to remove her from life support after she hadn’t shown signs of life since being admitted to a hospital over the weekend. As we reported yesterday, L-A mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stated that there will be an investigation into the event and they will assess whether or not to have events like this in the future.
WILL.I.AM’S IPAD HELPS LOCATE STOLEN PROPERTY
Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am went on a hunt for justice after someone broke into his Bentley last week. Someone made off with over 10-thousand dollars of the rapper’s jewelry and personal property — including a new iPad — when they broke into will’s car, which was parked in the Hollywood Hills. Will used his iPad’s built-in tracking system to locate the thief’s whereabouts and then forwarded the info to police. We’re told police already got most of his stuff back and are very close to catching the crook, who is still on the run.

According to Billboard.com, Chilli from TLC revealed that the group is looking to release a new album. Interestingly enough, the reality star revealed that B.o.B is on their radar as a guest feature. The singer stated, “He is great musically and lyrically.” The upcoming project will be the former trio’s first effort since group member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez passed away April 25th, 2002. Since then, Chilli and T-Boz have continued to tour and honor Lisa’s memory.
WILLIE NELSON AND SNOOP DOGG SHARE A HIT
Rapper Snoop Dogg recently posted a picture on his personal Twitter account of him spending time with Willie Nelson. The two are gathered around a table and Willie has a cigar, or something similar to a cigar, in his mouth. Could Amy Winehouse’s forthcoming album have a special duet on it? According to British paper The Sun, R&B legend Stevie Wonder has revealed that he wants to do a song with the embattled singer-songwriter. Amy’s dad Mitch recently revealed that we may get to hear the much-anticipated album later this year, but there has not yet been any official conformation.

DRAKE AND CHRIS BROWN RECORD TOGETHER
Last Tuesday, Drake spilled the beans to Extra that he’s been working on new material with Chris Brown. The “Fireworks” rapper revealed he “was actually in the studio with Chris Brown for a little bit. Then I was studio hopping, seeing where I can lend my hand since I’ve done mine.” It’s unknown if the songs the artists worked on will appear on Brown’s follow-up to Graffiti. In related news, Drizzy will kick off his tour in Canada on July 15th.
JAZMINE SULLIVAN SURFACES WITH NEW SINGLE
Rap-Up.com reports Jazmine Sullivan is back with new heat on a single called “Holdin’ You Down.” The Lamb and Missy Elliot-produced song is the first offering from the soulful singer’s sophomore project. The follow-up to 2008’s Fearless has no official release date, but Jazmine tweeted that she’s hit the studio with Ne-Yo, Ryan Leslie and producers Stargate and Salaam Remi, whom crafted her hit, “Bust Your Windows.”

CIARA ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASE DATE
Ciara announced the release date for her upcoming Basic Instinct album. The “Ride” singer tweeted the disc will arrive this summer on August 24th. SOLANGE DESCRIBES “CRAZY” RECORDING PROCESS
Solange told Refinery 29 magazine about her new unique approach to making music for her sophomore album. Solo admits to “inviting a bunch of amazing musicians to come live there with [her] for a month and just experiment” at a house in Santa Barbara. The singer said they would get up “around 10 AM and made music until midnight, all of course while drinking good wine, picking avocados from the trees outside to make guacamole, and maybe enjoying a joint or two.” Beyonce’s little sister feels the “process” was “a little crazy,” but definitely rewarding. <WM>
