MTV RADIO’S MORNING FACTS FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 17TH, 2010

MILEY CYRUS MTV LIVE CONCERT STREAM

Miley Cyrus will celebrate the release of her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, with a free global live stream of her concert at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California across a number of MTV Networks’ Music and Logo Group websites on Monday.   The Can’t Be Tamed World Premiere Live concert coincides with the release of Miley’s highly anticipated album and will be streamed live to nearly 160 countries.   The live stream event will air on Miley.MTV.com and will begin around 10:30 PM Eastern.   The next day, the concert will be archived and made available for on-demand viewing, allowing fans to access the full concert and to view specific performances.

SEE IT!   The show will beam out from the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California and will be available on Miley.MTV.com, Miley.Vh1.com, Miley.CMT.com, Miley.LogoTV.com and more than 30 websites across Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Cyrus will debut songs from the album, and in addition to the live stream, a special widget will allow for live chatting with fans from around the world.  

STATEMENT: Miley Cyrus released this statement: “I’m so excited to perform my new music live in concert on the night of my album release. Thanks to MTV Networks, my fans from all around the world have the opportunity to be a part of it and experience it with me.”

ROCK BAND: The day after the concert will also mark Cyrus’ Rock Band debut, with five songs made available for download in the Rock Band music store. The Miley Cyrus Pack 01 will feature five of Miley’s fan favorites, including “Can’t Be Tamed” from her new album, as well as “7 Things,” “Fly on the Wall” and “See You Again” from   2008’s Breakout.   Cyrus said, “I can’t wait for my fans to be able to download and play five of my songs in Rock Band, I love that people can rock out with me and play my new song ‘Can’t Be Tamed’!”

KATY PERRY TOPS DIGITAL SONGS CHART

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” holds on to the number one slot on the Digital Songs chart, selling over 353-thousand copies.   B.o.B’s “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams is at number two, followed by Usher’s “OMG” featuring will.i.am, Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” featuring Bruno Mars and Eminem’s “Not Afraid.”   The top debut on the chart this week is Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” from the new Karate Kid movie, fighting its way to a number 15, shifting 76-thousand copies.   The song also features Karate Kid star Jaden Smith. <JC>

GLEE TOPS BILLBOARD ALBUM CHART

“Gleeks” won the musical battle between Twilight and Glee, as the latest installment of the Glee soundtrack series debuts at number one on the Billboard album chart.   The Journey to Regionals EP debuts at the summit, selling over 152-thousand copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, besting the Twilight Saga: Eclipse album at number two with 144-thosuand copies. Christina Aguilera’s fourth studio album, Bionic, bows at number three with 110-thousand copies.   Last week’s number one album, Jack Johnson’s To the Sea slips to number four, while Plies’ Goon Affiliated arrives at number five.   Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 falls four notches to number six, Glee, the Music, Volume 3: Showstoppers drops four spots to number seven and Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now also falls four places to number eight.   Dierks Bentley’s Up On The Ridge climbs in at number nine and Jewel’s Sweet and Wild debuts at number ten.

GLEE MAKES HISTORY!

Glee: Journey to Regionals EP debuts at number one on the Billboard album chart, selling over 152-thousand copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures.   It is the fifth soundtrack album release from Glee since the TV series launched a year ago on FOX, and the third to hit number one following The Power of Madonna EP and The Music: Volume 3: Showstoppers.   According to Billboard, when the two latter sets bowed at number one four weeks apart, the Glee cast set the mark for shortest span between first weeks at number one with different albums in the 54-year history of the Billboard album chart. With its latest leader, the act rewrites its own record with a new number one just three weeks after its last set arrived in the top spot. With three number one albums in 2010, the Glee cast is the first act to enjoy as many leaders in a calendar year since another TV troupe, The Monkees, logged a trio of toppers in 1967: More of the Monkees, Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones LTD.

KATY PERRY TALKS TEEN CHOICE AWARDS

The Teen Choice Awards nominations have been announced and Katy Perry is gearing up to host the big show.   She told MTV News that she always has a fantastic time hosting awards shows.   Perry is planning a lot of wardrobe changes and there will be Velcro and likely some stripping involved.   The singer added that teens are sometimes a tough audience and that she plans to prove that she is cool saying, “I am not pop-star lame, I am not hipster cool – I am somewhere in the middle.”   Perry may perform the title track to her new album, Teenage Dream, at the show.   The album hits stores on August 24th.   The 2010 Teen Choice Awards will air on FOX on Monday, August 9th at 8 PM Eastern.  

MATCHING TATS FOR KATY AND RUSSELL?

Did Katy Perry and Russell Brand get matching tattoos?   According to ContactMusic.com, the engaged couple both got tats in Sandskrit that, when translated, say, “Go with the flow.”   You can see Brand’s new ink in this month’s issue of Rolling Stone, which features him on the cover.

TREY SONGZ TO PREVIEW NEW SONGS ON TOUR

DRAKE’S PREDICTED ALBUM SALES…

According to HitsDailyDouble.com, Drake is on pace to have a massive debut on the Billboard 200 chart. The rap star’s Thank Me Later project is estimated to sell 450 to 475-thousand units during its opening week. These early number will ensure a number one spot on the chart. The news comes days after Lil Wayne predicted to MTV News that Drake will sell two-million records in seven days. In related news, Drizzy’s popular So Far Gone mixtape has already sold over 478-thousand copies to date.

DRAKE RESPONDS TO CANCELED FREE CONCERT

On Tuesday night, Drake was expected to play a free concert at the South Street Seaport in New York City. The event attracted over 25-thousand fans, which exceeded initial expectations, and ended in violence when Drizzy failed to appear on stage. Luckily, nobody was injured but there were two arrests. Drake later wrote on Twitter that he was “so disappointed” that his fans didn’t get to see what he had planned.

GAGA IS TOPS IN THE U-K

It shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone, but Lady Gaga isn’t just big in America.   The “Bad Romance” singer is a star across the pond in the U-K as well, and that was proven by the fact that she has now sold more than four-million downloads of her songs.   According to PerezHilton.com, this makes Gaga the number one digital selling artist in Great Britain, beating out both Rihanna and the Black Eyed Peas.

LADY A’S SUCCESS OVERSEAS

Lady Antebellum’s latest album, Need You Now, has sold more than 2.2-million copies, making it one of the biggest albums of the year so far. According to reports, the record is also doing quite well in Europe, and Lady A are trying to head to the continent for some tour dates.   But since they are on the road with Tim McGraw at the moment and will soon headline their own shows, their time is limited for worldwide travel.

LEONA LEWIS SPENDS BIG MONEY

Leona Lewis isn’t much of a drinker, but that didn’t stop her from spending more than ten-thousand dollars on alcohol in a single evening.   According to British paper the Daily Star, the “Bleeding Love” singer took her friends and family out for drinks the other day after a performance at London’s O2 Arena and ran up quite a tab.   A source said that it was because it was the first time she headlined her hometown arena, and wanted to “celebrate properly.”

JORDIN SPARKS TALK IDOL…SORT OF

This past season of American Idol is long over, but Jordin Sparks still won’t tell anyone who she voted for.   The former champ told Billboard.com that between winner Lee DeWyze and runner-up Crystal Bowersox she “did vote for one more than the other,” but that was all she revealed.   With DeWyze taking home the crown, it means that Sparks is still last female to win the show, after her Season Six victory.

ABDUL THINKS BRET CAN BE AN IDOL JUDGE

There have been rumors lately that American Idol is considering hiring Bret Michaels to fill Simon Cowell’s spot at the judges’ table and now, the Poison singer has gotten support from a former AI judge.   Paula Abdul told Hollywood Life that the role “takes someone who really, really understands what it’s like for young people who want to make magic happen” and that Bret “would fit the mold perfectly.”   Read more at HollywoodLife.com.  

LILY ALLEN GETS SNUBBED

Lily Allen may be a star, but apparently she’s not quite as famous as the cast of Glee.   According to British paper the Daily Mirror, the pop star was ignored by paparazzi outside of a London restaurant because they chose to take pictures of the stars of the hit FOX show instead.

GREEN DAY ON DEMOS

Green Day was in New York City earlier this week to perform at the Tony Awards. We caught up with bassist Mike Dirnt on the red carpet to ask him about the demos that the guys have been recording throughout their current tour (See Related Cut #4). SNOOP DOGG BETS 20K ON NBA FINALS!

Snoop Dogg reportedly placed a huge bet with New Kids On The Block singer Donnie Wahlberg on which team will win the NBA Finals. According to TheBoomBox.com, the West Coast rapper has 20-thousand dollars on the Los Angeles Lakers beating the Boston Celtics and ultimately becoming the league champions. On Tuesday night, the Lakers tied up the series…but there can only be one winner.   Be sure to tune into Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals tonight at 9 PM Eastern on ABC.

The money will be donated to the charity of the winner’s choice.
