BRITNEY SPEARS AND NEW MOON TOP ITUNES CHART

Brintey Spears’ new tune “3” tops the iTunes singles chart.   The song also debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.   “Fireflies,” by Owl City, comes in at number two, Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” drops to number three while Jason Derulo’s “Watcha Say” is at number four and “Meat Me Halfway” by the Black Eyed Peas lands at number five.   The New Moon Soundtrack     debuts at number one on the iTunes album chart.   Michael Buble, who currently tops the Billboard album chart, comes in at number two with Crazy Love, The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. places at number three, while Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 and Owl City’s debut, Ocean Eyes, come in at number four and five respectively.  

KELLY CLARKSON, FALL OUT BOY & MORE SAVE THE MUSIC

Kelly Clarkson, OneRepublic, Fall Out Boy, Mandy Moore, Nick Lachey, Chrisette Michele, Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat have joined the Vh1 Save The Music Foundation as “Ambassadors” dedicated to restoring instrumental music education programs in public schools.   The Ambassadors class follow in the footsteps of the last year’s inaugural class which included Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Chris Webber, Gavin DeGraw, Ne-Yo, John Rzeznik, Natasha Bedingfield, The Fray, 3 Doors Down and Venus Williams.  

MILEY CYRUS, COLBIE CAILLAT & MORE FOR A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS

Miley Cyrus, Colbie Caillat, Kristinia DeBarge, Vanessa Hudgens, Sean Kingston, Leighton Meester, Mitchel Musso, Kellie Pickler, Ashley Tisdale, Carrie Underwood and others have contributed songs to A Very Special Christmas Volume 7.   The album, which benefits the Special Olympics, will be released on November 24th.  

DESIGN A SIMPSONS CHARACTER FOR COLDPLAY EPISODE

Coldplay is set to get animated on an episode of The Simpsons next year and the show is asking for fans’ help. According to NME, a character designed by a contest winner will appear in the January episode alongside the band.   Entries can be submitted at TheSimpsons.com/Character. Executive producer Al Jean said the animated character should be “pithy and funny.” The contest is part of the show’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

ALICIA KEYS GOES BACK TO SCHOOL!

Alicia Keys will begin The Element of Freedom: The Lecture & Performance Series at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday.     The event which is named after Keys’ upcoming album, The Element Of Freedom, is a unique lecture and performance series that offers the opportunity for students studying music and other entertainment fields to obtain first-hand information from Keys.   Alicia Keys will also hold a lecture at UCLA’s Royce Hall on October 28th with more dates to be announced.   Keys’ fourth studio album, The Element Of Freedom, will be released December 1st.  

MGMT SAY CONGRATULATIONS

MGMT has confirmed that their new album will be titled Congratulations. The follow-up to their breakthrough 2007 debut album, Oracular Spectacular, is set to come out sometime next year. The duo has played some new tunes at shows over the summer, and footage from those gigs can be viewed now on YouTube. Currently, MGMT is not on the road but you can keep up with the band at WhoIsMGMT.com.

MORE ON U2 IMAGE APP

More details have emerged about U2’s Blackberry application. The band needs fans to send them images inspired by U2 songs, which will then be part of the band’s mobile photo album. Details of the special app can be found at U2.com now.

JOHN MAYER’S B-DAY CELEBRATION

John Mayer celebrated his 32nd birthday in New York City over the weekend.   According to the New York Post, the singer-songwriter went out with Jeremy Piven and Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers and shared his birthday cake with model Paige Butcher, who was also celebrating a b-day.   Read more about the fiesta at NYPost.com.

JOHN MAYER ON MILEY CYRUS

Miley Cyrus has been off of Twitter for a while now, but that didn’t stop avid-tweeter John Mayer from chiming in on the situation.   The singer-songwriter told MTV, “She’s smart enough to realize there is some interference of the brain that she doesn’t want to deal with.   I think if you’re in Miley’s situation, it might take a little too much time to play goalie for your own heart and mind.”

RUN DMC PLAY ON THE WAY?

According to Variety, Run-DMC is currently negotiating the possibility of creating an original Broadway musical about their iconic rise to fame. Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels met with producer Paula Wagner who feels “their story lends itself perfectly to the stage.” The woman behind the Mission Impossible series added, “This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them.” We’ll keep you posted with further updates.

MARIAH RECRUITS FEATURES ON MEMOIRS RE-RELEASE

We’ve just learned new details on Mariah Carey’s upcoming revamped Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel album. Fans shouldn’t expect an entirely new album, or so says hit-maker Tricky Stewart, who told Rap-Up.com that the project is more of “an album of features, really cool features on the exact same album.” In addition to guest appearances from Trey Songz, T-Pain, Jermaine Dupri, Gucci Mane and Big Boi, Carey will receive contributions from R Kelly on the opening cut “Betcha Gon’ Know.” We will continue to keep you updated.

Mariah’s album will most likely retain the same name.

RUSSELL BLOGS ABOUT JAY-Z’S RAP CAREER

Russell Simmons reflectively blogged about Jay-Z’s influential rap career and how it’s impacted the hip hop community. The Def Jam founder wrote: “It suddenly dawned on me, that in a hundred years from now, we’re gonna be talking about Jay-Z. USHER HAD DOUBTS OVER “PAPERS” SINGLE

According to People.com, Usher wasn’t sure he wanted “Papers” to be his lead single off Raymond Vs. Raymond. Hit-maker Sean Garrett told the site that they were trying to figure out if it should come out or not and ultimately decided that it was a “smash” that couldn’t be denied.
