“Cold Car” from The Edward Furlongs

The Edward Furlongs are a New Jersey-based endeavor in American music, comprised of Dan Gugger and Nick Afflitto. The project is a tip of the hat to the pioneers before them, a reflection of their collective experiences and a bullish reaction to the state of modern music.

Although Dan and Nick grew up playing music in the same thriving New Jersey music scene, they didn’t meet until performing together on the Vans Warped Tour in the summer of 2009. After spending several years performing music for other bands, they decided to create music of their own, with a few core principals in mind.

Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts have announced a US tour in support of Manhattan (Rough Trade Records) the seventh album by incomparable comic book writer, artist, and musician, Jeffrey Lewis. His band has a multi-faceted existence, exploring a stylistic swath from contemplative folk narratives to distortion-fueled garage rock to soundscape abstractions and more, usually all within any given ten-minute period. Most often a trio (though occasionally just Jeffrey solo, or as a duo, and on some tours as a four-piece), the Jeffrey Lewis group has shuffled its name a number of times over the years, in 2015 becoming Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts featuring Mem Pahl on bass and Brent Cole on drums.

A full-length album comprised of rare material from 2010-2011, The Sleeping Gods – Thorn is a unique collection of experimental recordings connecting with the band’s early roots.

LIPSTICK RELEASES MUSIC VIDEO FOR “CHA LA HEAD CHA LA”

The theatrical rock band, Lipstick, have debuted their new music video for a song called “Cha La Head Cha La”. Originally a Japanese progressive rock song by Hironobu Kageyama, the song served as the theme song to the television show Dragonball Z. Lipstick have recorded a new version of the song for their upcoming album, “Lipstick II”. The stunning video features Lipstick in a live-action recreation of the style of Dragonball Z, complete with flying through the air, laser blasts, and people being punched through mountains.

Darrin Pfeiffer (Goldinger) Balances Music Career with Side Gigs

Darrin Pfeiffer, longtime drummer for the SOCAL pop/punk/ska band Goldfinger is showing he’s more than a skin hitter. Turns out Darrin is a hockey nut and is now writing a pre and post game Los Angeles Kings blog for AM 570 Sports (Iheartmedia) called Kings Korner (@kingskorner99).

Darrin already was working as a producer for ALT 98.7 when he transitioned into a sports blogger saying, “It was easy. It was just one floor down. Kept going down there to say hi and finally they offered me a job. Didn’t hurt that I was bugging them about hockey haha”

Chef Sean “Color Money”

Sean made his feature film debut at age 12 in the MGM/Gramercy Pictures drama, Jason’s Lyric, portraying the young Jason, starring Allen Payne, Forrest Whitaker and Jada Pinkett Smith. His credits include the television movie, There Are No Children Here for Harpo Productions, and Missing Persons on ABC. He has also starred in numerous national advertising campaigns.Sean studied acting at Second City Theatre in Chicago and is also a skilled audio recording engineer. The Chicago-native resides in Hollywood, California.

“Cinnamon and Lemon” from Norwegian group Stillehavet

Stillehavet is a newly formed band consisting of Marit Elisabeth Svendsbøe and Gaute Stedje. They live in Bergen, Norway. Both members were previously part of a band called Funin (Marit Elisabeth was a co-founder) that released the record ‘Unsound’ on Karisma Records in 2010. Songs from this record have been played on radio channels in Norway and abroad.

“With Stillehavet we try to create music and sounds that excites us,” the duo explains. “In the process of making songs we use a lot of time just playing with instruments and sounds. We have an intuitive approach on making music, and we like it to sound raw and unpolished. Creating music has a therapeutic effect on us.”

Woes sign to Rude Records + Debut single ‘Worst Friend’

Last month, Glasgow pop-punk four piece Woes dropped their hook-laden debut video/single ‘Worst Friend’. Woes have now signed to Rude Records (Set It Off, Zebrahead, American Hi-Fi, Knuckle Puck, Less Than Jake), and have announced details of their forthcoming five track self-titled EP, which is due for release on 25th November 2016 via Rude Records.

The Shacks share eerie “Orchids” video at The A.V. Club

The Shacks have a unique sound that is both vaguely familiar and completely fresh. Equal parts Max Shrager and Shannon Wise singing in her soft whispered voice — The Shacks sound like they’re playing alone with nobody watching and will release their self-titled, debut EP tomorrow via Big Crown Records. The EP is available for pre-order HERE and The Shacks will be performing a release show at Elvis Guesthouse in NYC on Sat, Nov 5 at 8pm.

The second video from the EP, for the delicate “Orchids”, premiered yesterday via The A.V. Club. Directed by Catherine Orchard and shot in the middle of the night, the video had the band in a daze as they’d fallen asleep prior to shooting. “That hazy in-between state serves the song well,” says The A.V. Club. “It’s a ’50s-style ballad, slow and soulful, just on the edge of doo-wop, that is given a sparse and eerie edge by the half-whispered vocals of singer Shannon Wise.”

The Beat Escape Share New Track “Half Empty Happyness”

Having released their debut single on 12″ vinyl last Friday via Bella Union, The Beat Escape – an electronic duo hailing from Montreal – have shared the singles B-side, the 80s imbued “Half Empty Happiness”. Premiered yesterday on Clash, the song sounds link Factory Records by way of John Maus. Of the track Clash said, “the chugging electronics feel as if they will collapse inwards at any moment, with The Beat Escape recalling early OMD, or even New Order’s first few studio sessions. Woodes Releases Debut Self Titled EP

Australian artist/producer Woodes has today released her debut self titled EP containing six entrancing tracks, including the acclaimed single ‘The Thaw’ and fan favourite ‘Daggers & Knives’. The EP combining Woodes’ love of electronica sounds, with gritty textures to create soundscapes fitting of another realm with Woodes’ vocals the perfect accompaniment.

Woodes explains her process behind the EP; “I’ve been working on these 6 songs over the last couple years. They’ve all transformed as I’ve learned more production and have been writing with more people in both Melbourne & overseas. Some of them formed quite quickly and others have been with me from the start.”

Shop Talk is what happens when a long-standing sideman in the Brooklyn music scene brings his songs to center stage. After serving time in a string of excellent local bands such as Queening and Worms In Dirt, singer/guitarist Jon Garcia takes control of the wheel. It’s Jon’s turn to drive now, and you’re in good hands.

After penning a clutch of strong songs, Garcia recruited a crack rhythm section comprised of Pygmy Shrews drummer Alexander Perrelli and Liturgy guitarist (playing bass here) Bernard Gann. Led by Garcia, this power trio set about honing his songs into diamond-sharp rock that retains a rough-hewn grace. Shop Talk dispenses with much of the posturing inherent in their peers, instead focusing their considerable skills on serving the song first and foremost.

Future States consists of Chuck Bronson (Guitar, Vocals), Brodie Conley (Guitar, BV), Daniel Gélinas (Drums, BV), Nicolas Hyatt (Keys, BV) and David Lacalamita (Bass, BV). Their unique sound emanates directly from their collaborative ethos. The band draw from varied musical backgrounds and educations—experimental composition, psych/prog, jazz, indie rock, and folk—working diligently together until each song becomes more than the sum of its individual parts. This process is aided by Gélinas, who acts as the band’s in-house recording engineer. The result is a tapestry of musical influences, put together like a puzzle that yields a satisfying whole.

Austin’s Jess Williamson follows up her impressive debut album, Native State, with a new LP! Heart Song is out November 4th on on Brutal Honest and, yesterday, CLASH premiered the hazy, new video for “See You In A Dream.” Drawing inspiration from an old Roky Erickson video, director Daniel Hill shot the video mostly on VHS, with the idea that the VHS footage is like a dream sequence. It’s a beautiful preview to the full album that CLASH called “stark and musically lush, hugely imaginative and yet entirely direct, the record seems to effortlessly move past her debut.”

Comrade Hat “Old Amsterdam”

“Old Amsterdam” is the new single from Comrade Hat, aka multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer/composer Neil Burns, based out of Derry, Northern Ireland.

The title track from his forthcoming mini-album, “Old Amsterdam” is a lush, bittersweet ode to the eponymous city, bridging old-world nostalgia and knowing, 21st Century detail. BETHLEHEM to Release New LP

Black metal pioneers BETHLEHEM will release their new album, Bethlehem, on December 2 via Prophecy Productions. Produced by the band and Markus Stock (Alcest) at Studio E (Helrunar, Secrets of the Moon), Bethlehem is the band’s eighth full-length record, and its release celebrates the 25th anniversary of the award-winning group, who features in its ranks bassist Bartsch, drummer Wolz, guitarist Karzov and new singer Onielar, from none other than German black metal stalwarts Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult.

The video serves as a visual representation of Reva’s inspiration and feelings behind the EP; gray, pink and purple tinges accompany the music’s sensual and vintage feel. R&B soundscapes set the tone of the song while the new cinematic value supports the musical vision.

Lydia – “Georgia”

“Georgia,” directed by Cole Kiburz, was shot in a small southern Arizona town, about seven miles from the Mexican border. The clip mesmerizes from start to finish as it’s stars traverse the desolate streets, surrounded by quaint retro objects.

“It’s more or less a kind of counter culture town tucked away from the world,” said Lydia vocalist and guitarist Leighton Antelman. “The people that lived there were beyond nice and talked about the place like it was something magical. It was really fun day of hanging out there and shooting.”
