‘THE BEST OF GUESS WHO’ IN APRIL 2015

Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be releasing The Guess Who’s “The Best Of Guess Who” album on Limited Edition 4.0 Quad Hybrid SACD in April 2015. They didn’t have street cred; they didn’t look like stars; and they weren’t considered “cool” by the ultra hip and snooty underground FM rock crowd. But over the course of their career, The Guess Who created some of the most transcendent and electrifying pop music of the Seventies. The Guess Who stubbornly flew in the face of fashion, trends, and the flourishing progressive rock movement, and built an enduring body of work that illuminates their status as immensely gifted pop rock practitioners.

JOHN HOSKING “FALSE ARMS”

John wrote “False Arms” over a 48-hour period but made changes to the sound to capture the emotion of the song. With its soft, intriguing verses, John believes the chorus is a cry out of out of frustration and defeat. Ultimately, John wants his listeners to make their own view or interpretation of the track, and believes followers should listen to the song a few times to make sense of its statement.

BLIND LAKE “WALK BESIDE ME”

Originally a 2003 sci-fi novel by Robert Charles Wilson, Blind Lake, the duo comprised of Lotta Wenglén (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals) and Måns Wieslander (guitar, drums, bass, vocals) derived their band name from the book where in a small Minnesota locale, through alien technology, scientists are able to follow the everyday lives of aliens on a distant planet. The paranormal subject matter aptly reflects the Böste, Sweden based duo’s approach to art, music, philosophy and the perfectly normal events in life which remain perfectly unexplainable.

Wieslander explains, “It’s sort of like what we do, observe people (including ourselves) and situations from the Blind Lake headquarters. We also liked the sound of it, the sci-fi equivalent of a blank page, just waiting to be filled.”

LUNG DART ‘B. OK’

The EP was realised in James’s lounge, which, at one point, was also Tim’s bedroom but is now back to being a lounge, masquerading as a studio.

When not playing instruments or sat gazing into their computers with muted Friends episodes on the television, LUNG DART take sounds from their every-day, using the voice memo app on their phones. The sounds you can hear within the 18 minutes that is EBBS, include some of London’s most famous shitholes, one in particular being the grey mass of bilge that they call Wembley Stadium. You can hear it’s empty hallways and kegs of Carlsberg knocking together from the night shifts James and Tim would work for an unnamed recruitment agency.

THE LONELY WILD “RUNNING”

Consequence of Sound has premiered “Running” the new single from The Lonely Wild. “Running” is a, “a heavy-hearted cross-examination of life’s failures, but ends on a hopeful message of “don’t stop running.” says Consequence of Sound. The track is the first glimpse listeners get of Chasing White Light, The Lonely Wild’s self-proclaimed “death album.” The song unfolds in short movements alternating between orchestral strings and voice, with lyrics that call into question the nature of existence. Perception and reality are contrasted when Andrew Carroll and Jessi Williams ask one another, “Did I catch you dreaming, even believing you were alive?” Williams then searches for answers in fate. She sings, “Did you write the story? Are we the actors on the stage?”

EMEFE is about breaking through static, the undefinable noise and clutter of everyday life. The album’s concepts were inspired by French author Jacques Lusseyran’s And There Was Light, chronicling a blind man’s realization of light and love in his time during the French resistance movement. After years of creating an original and fearless pop style showcased through their live performances, their signature style is finally exhibited on their new record. EMEFE’s beats are a cross between Fela Kuti and Prince, with vocals reminiscent of the Talking Heads’ candor and the Beach Boys’ lushness… all with a unique pop sensibility.
