OUT FRIDAY: ‘Transfigurations’ LP from California’s groundbreaking genre-defying avant artist Cellista

Groundbreaking experimental cellist and multimedia artist Cellista presents her new ‘Transfigurations’ album. As a stage poem, this entails a multi-media work that includes dance, poetry, original classical compositions, noise and sound textures.

“In 2017, Transfigurations began growing out of a avant-garde performance art piece I wrote, composed, and directed called ‘Wants’. It was meant to be a response to Trump and the rapid gentrification of the Bay, and address the tragedy of the Ghost Ship fire. Wants became a 20-minute film that my regular filmmaker Jennifer Gigantino shot and edited. The ruptures feature sounds from the Internet Archive and there are lots of historical recordings and found sounds, most originating from the Bay area,” explains Cellista.

Domani Dramatizes Stories From His Past in the “Time Will Tell” Video

Tasteful and wise well-beyond his eighteen years, ATL rapper Domani is destined for big things. Worrying about his come-up and his future as an artist, Domani shares “Time Will Tell,” his latest video. Riding a beat that changes from life-affirming gospel to sinister bass-boosted trap, Domani tells a pair of connected stories from his childhood–both related to his father’s arrest and imprisonment, and his difficulty finding people to trust. Ever a reflective and philosophical thinker, Domani takes solace in the realization that everyone’s intentions become clear over time: “Time will tell who’s real or fake/if you’re not with me then you’re in the way,” rhymes Domani on the hook. In the video, premiered by Dirty-Glove Bastard, Domani dramatizes moments from his youth, including the moment of his father’s arrest and his dealings with an opportunistic teacher, contrasting them with candles, coffins, hearses, and other funereal iconography. “Time Will Tell” is the latest video from the upcoming Time Will Tell project, following the symbolist video for “Game We Play,” premiered earlier this month.

Tasha The Amazon Returns To Her Warehouse Roots in “That Ain’t You” Video

With a fiery and punishing rap sound that springs directly from Toronto’s warehouse party scene, Tasha The Amazon is a serious talent. Delivering an exhilarating visual for a visceral song, Tasha shares the video for “That Ain’t You,” directed and conceptualized by Colin G. Cooper. Dominated by bullying bass, complemented with guttural chants and twinkling synth, “That Ain’t You” finds the artist adopting patois, crafting dexterous hooks as she shouts down those who try to vulture her swag: “We can like the same shit, but you still ain’t the crew/Ride the same whip, but you still ain’t the crew/Buy the same fits, but you still ain’t the crew.” In the video, Tasha rocks two metallic and futuristic outfits, styled by Jess Mori, as she wilds out in a warehouse, lit by bars of neon light. Premiered by NYLON, the video also shines a spotlight on several individuals worthy of being in Tasha’s crew–bohemian individuals like the ones who used to frequent the warehouse parties on which Tasha made her name. With audio premiered earlier this year by Highsnobiety, “That Ain’t You” is the lead single from Black Moon, Tasha’s upcoming album.
