Katie Harkin, founding member/songwriter of Sky Larkin and touring member and collaborator of Courtney Barnett, Sleater-Kinney, Waxahatchee, Kurt Vile and Wild Beasts, has self-released her debut solo song “Mist on Glass”, now available on most major streaming platforms. The release also includes a “b-side” cover of Comsat Angels’ “Independence Day”, recorded with Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Hayden Thorpe (Wild Beasts) and captured on video by Shure Microphones.
The release is being met with praise from her Sleater-Kinney bandmate Carrie Brownstein, who penned a letter to Harkin about the song for Talkhouse, plus praise from fans Courtney Barnett, Taylor Schilling, and Lance Bangs.
“I wrote “Mist On Glass” between borrowed rooms on tour and my cottage among the howling moors of The Peak District National Park, searching for a sound that combined the eeriness of the English countryside with the pace of the mechanized world,” says Harkin. “”Mist On Glass” confronts identity, conflict and self determination.”
