Skating Polly is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist duo Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse who started their band in Oklahoma in 2009. They recorded their debut album Taking Over The World in 2010 and literally did that garnering so much praise from the music world. After the release of 2016’s The Big Fit, Veruca Salt’s Louise Post and Nina Gordon reached out for a writing session that ultimately led to 2017’s New Trick EP. Now Kelli’s brother Kurtis Mayo is in the band and the trio is about to release their latest full length, The Make It All Show. Skating Polly is our new favorite band. Milwaukee enigma JUICEBOXXX has released the lead single from his forthcoming EP, out next week via Dangerbird Records. ‘Ripping Up My Soul’ is a rock and roll appraisal of a rock and roll lifestyle. “This song is about subculture as a weird spiritual surrogate, and trying to navigate a life after years of rock and roll damage,” says the man himself. “Coming to grips with this force that has both given your life meaning but also made it deeply confusing. Sometimes I feel trapped in the basement, the dive bar, the warehouse, whatever… There is a punk rock version of “Catholic guilt” and I don’t really know how to process it. Some people end up dying. But I continue write songs. And try to take it one day at a time.”
