Hear Tara Jane O’Neil’s cover of “Ballad of El Goodo”
In The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, Gertrude Stein writes: “I may say that only three times in my life have I met a genius and each time a bell within me rang and I was not mistaken.” When I first met Tara Jane ONeil, about 25 years ago—and more particularly, the first time I saw her play—this bell rang. I was not mistaken.
TJO is my friend. But not all friendships are shadowed by—haloed by, really—this firm apprehension of genius, the simple awe that derives from witnessing irrepressible, astonishing forces and capabilities rushing through a fellow human.
These forces have been rushing through TJO from when she was but a kid playing in the hardcore, math band Rodan, through her wide-ranging collaborations with local and international players, through her eight solo albums, which constitute some of the most beautiful, intricate music I’ve ever heard, and which I’ve been grateful to have as a wise, stimulating soundtrack to my adult life. And now there’s Tara Jane ONeil, her ninth solo offering.

DYLYN’s “Mimosa” Will Relax You
“The past few years have been tough, filled with loss, heartache and anger. Sometimes moments in our lives give us a raw and real eye opening experience. It kind of snapped me out of a daze. I didn’t feel like I was being true to myself. I started questioning the path I was going down and decided to get back to my roots. At one of my shows I ended up meeting with producer Colin Munroe who has worked with artists like Sky Ferreira, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. We connected immediately and had a conversation that led me to a sort of musical revelation. I was done chasing the train and was ready to create a sound that was true to myself.” – Mimosa

FORESEEN: Finnish Crossover Act To Release Second Album
Returning a few years and a few tours after their 2014-released Helsinki Savagery debut album set the world ablaze, Finland’s FORESEEN is back with the topically resonant savage crossover burst, Grave Danger, their second album for 20 Buck Spin. Additionally, the band is plotting their return to the US directly in conjunction with the album’s release.
Continuing the direction of its predecessor, Grave Danger delivers the punishingly relentless pace and aggression now firmly established by the iron hammer of Foreseen. Here find scraping, throat-ripping vocals over lacerating thrash dominance and possessed hardcore breakdowns that twist seamlessly with an ever-increasing ’80s heavy metal tenacity, exemplified on tracks like “Fearmonger,” “Bloodline,” and “Chemical Heritage.” FORESEEN also embraces social commentary and critique throughout as heard in the lyrics to “Government Cuts” and “Suicide Bomber,” among others.

If ZDS’ remix of “Teleport” is any indication of the future output of the Atlanta-based Psycho Disco label, we may very well see Georgia transform into the new clubbing capital of the world.
Teen Daze shares visual album for ‘Themes for Dying Earth’

Themes is also distinct in its collaborative nature. Jamison has worked with other artists in the past, but never to this degree and expanse: “Making the last record alongside other people helped me realize that inviting additional minds to the creative process brings out the best in me.“ Themes For Dying Earth also features collaborations with Sean Carey, Dustin Wong, Sound Of Ceres, Nadia Hulett, and Jon Anderson.

COLD FELL: Manchester Black Metal Outfit Debuts “Bone Ceiling”
Decibel offers, “COLD FELL builds a tense atmosphere as the outfit leads into an angry onslaught at the end, aided by the rousing ‘Oi!’ chants mentioned above by Taylor. The energetic ‘last stand’ at the end of ‘Bone Ceiling’ contrasts the vocals Taylor uses earlier in the song, which begin to come across as cries of desperation rather than evil screams.”
