Mansell Disconnect on New Indie Single “A Note 2 Myself”

The Atlanta-based trio, Mansell has released a new single from their debut LP Mantra, available on November 11th. The simmering track “A Note 2 Myself” premiered with Substream Magazine and its lyrics relate to the feeling of wanting to disconnect from the world to the point where you start to drift into isolation.

“This is just a song for daydreaming,” says vocalist/guitarist Holden Fincher. “It’s sort of a running joke about how vague or in my head I can be and this is sort of musically and lyrically narrating the act of that. The ending lyrics represent the disconnect within yourself or your world that often leads to the desire to escape or drift. That drift becomes isolation as time passes leaving you wishing to attach more with your heart and other people more than with your mind over analyzing every part of itself.”

ONESIE Drop Single “Ballad Of The Boomerang”

The quirky quartet Onesie isn’t quitting quite yet. After the successes of the recent music video for single, “Ballad Of The Boomerang”, the boys have now released the track to the public. “Ballad of the Boomerang” fuses the lush stratocaster sparkle you would find on a Big Star record to a modern, propulsive beat. Lyrically the song meanders down a path that brings to mind the more wistful 1990s touchstones (Malkmus or Pollard) with pieces of duct-taped together poetry happily mingling alongside one another; “Vegas curtains keep the sunlight out, and interruptions to a minimum, but there’s so many zip codes I wanna get myself into, before I’m through”. It’s all over in under three minutes, but it’s a mission statement that rings in your head after the first listen.

TaxiWars (ft. Tom Barman of dEUS) stream new track

The taxi has been making the rounds for over a year now, and it’s got the smell to prove it: an odd mixture of coffee breath, leftover Indian takeout, and a few empty cans of cheap lager under the passenger’s seat. That, and a smashing Pharoah Sanders album on repeat.

Ever since their debut album came out, TaxiWars has done dozens of shows across Europe, performing in everything from intimate clubs to jazz festivals and big scale rock gatherings. “Very soon I was convinced that this could be a working band,” vocalist Tom Barman said during the recording of their second album, FEVER. “We bonded very quickly, these guys are great musicians – obviously – and I like the our work ethic: we can make a record without losing two years of our lives. The clubs and jazz fests have been great, but we feel most at home at seriously alternative rock festivals. Places where you hardly know anyone on the roster, but where you can hear smouldering, bubbling music wherever you go.”

But Anthem (out 10/28) is the anonymous crew’s heaviest mission statement to date, a five-track love letter to bass in all its forms. From the skull-rattling title track to the sinister, droning vibes of “Doses,” MIA nightlife has never sounded so wonderfully dark.

Recorded in February of 2015 with Mike Wright (Each Other) at Montreal’s infamous Drones Club, the album has tweaked and refined the sonic palette of their 2014 debut Saturnalia Regalia. The resulting batch of songs is imbued with an almost Blake-ian wonder, delicately balancing like Charlie Chaplin on a taut guitar cable between innocence and experience.

Mystery Cove contains a narrative arc of young lovers on an island getaway. You can’t fully appreciate the long history of recorded music without taking the time to look at the breakups. Whether it’s for good or for the season, Okey Dokey is the product of that natural reformation that occurs when musicians part ways. Fronted by visual artist Aaron Martin and The Weeks’ guitarist Johny Fisher, these two former band mates made the rare decision to revisit creating music together in Fisher’s small cabin about 20 miles outside of Nashville, TN. What occurred was a well blended mix of everything they loved about classic Motown combined with a dash of their psychedelic storytelling roots. With the record and touring band including a revolving group of musicians from bands such as Wild Child, The Weeks, Rayland Baxter Band, Morning Teleportation, Bully and Sol Cat, their upcoming debut album Love You, Mean It has a little bit of treasure for every type of listener.

This song is an attempt to make and preserve a little picture of that time and place when everything burned a little brighter. It also describes the inevitable act of letting go. But time does not diminish, it only makes anew.”
