KEEPS SHARE FULL STREAM OF ‘SHIMMERING’
Gusti Escalante and Robbie Jackson met the first day of college in the hills of Nashville. Both came with ambitions to write songs with new friends, but feared the heavy fog of Tennessee pop-country dreams might be all they would find. By the end of that night, they had written their first song together with whatever instruments happened to be unpacked – a floor tom and a guitar. They proceeded to write a song-a-day for a week, birthing a rare musical kinship – one that cut through the cloud of vanilla country music they feared would smother them.

“MOBBIN” VIDEO
Signed to E-40’s Sick Wid It Records, Nef The Pharaoh delivered his debut retail release, a self-titled EP, in November to high critical praise. Nef revisits his debut EP in the new video for “Mobbin’,” produced by DJ Fresh. Debuted by WorldStarHipHop, the “Mobbin'” video sees the Bay Area’s prince and his Kil FMB crew hit their hometown of Vallejo, paying homage to the Bay Area’s hyphy movement, going dumb while hijacking a school bus with the hyperlocal Carquinez Bridge in the background. Following E-40 and Mac Dre, the forefathers of Vallejo hip-hop, the 20-year-old Nef has undoubtedly adopted the area’s colorful style and slang while being a pioneering voice in the youth movement. Nef followed his breakthrough project by joining producer Cardo for Neffy Got Wings, a collaborative EP which released in January.

Layered with exquisite vocal harmonies and opulent string scores by Willow Stahlut (Cinematic Orchestra), the single is perfectly textured by bold, discordant guitars accentuating the song’s inimitable musical brilliance. “Sleepyhead is a meditation on two themes, one being the creative process versus the logical world and how choosing your own destiny can lead you down a long road of self-discovery that might clash with more pragmatic streams of life,” lead vocalist and songwriter Matt Kelly explains, “and secondly, it is about dealing with the depression that often comes with such a way of being.”

VICTORY DANCE “MEMPHIS”
At its core, Victory Dance is the “give no sh*ts” attitude of 5 guys who just play great music. And though the band is newly formed (September 2015), there’s no shortage of history. The group started when 3/5ths of pop act Fancy Reagan (Republic Records/Universal Music Group) sought out Kenny Collette, known for his work in Franchise and Lady Radiator (Emerald Moon Records), and Are Jay Helton of The Day Of (Warner Curb/Word Ent.) to start a more alternative project that would drive down a lane they were really passionate about.

HOUND “DROWN”
Hound is a product of a peculiar yet familiar environment. Years spent together ingrained in dilapidated Brisbane share houses wherein countless nights were spent idealising and arguing the nuances of the 70’s and 80’s punk rock movement. British new-wave, post punk and 90’s alternative have unwittingly given Hound their personal take on the very sounds, values and ideas that have sculpted them as a band.
