Vacant Party, Myths

vp

Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There’s something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever “it” is – they all seem to have “it”.

Today I listened to the latest EP from Vacant Party (Shane Murphy) a composer based out of Dublin, Ireland who just released his latest CD entitled: “Myths” in 2013. Venturing to the BANDCAMP website I get the impression this guy is a modest up and coming musician/producer that’s extremely determined, dedicated and passionate about the songwriting craft and being in a no holds barred Ambient Composer/Producer. From start to finish this 8 EP delivers and is a very entertaining musical experience all around. At times it pushes hard in true to form Industrial, but also covers a wide range of genera’s from Ambient, Chill, New Age and even Alternative, Neo-Progressive Electronica. It reminds me of Beck, Mody and Prodigy. Any fans of any of these musical styles or bands will enjoy this latest release. It’s clearly marketed for those who like a Sonic-Ambient atmosphere and movements that keep you guessing. I get the impression Murphy is letting it all hang out via this compelling 8 track line up. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well by just by being who he is musically. Favorite tracks include (Hera), (Echo), (Harmonia) and (Hypnos). All songs strike the perfect balance between Ambient, Chill and Ambient Electronica. The songwriting is impressive and digs a bit deeper than the next Ambient composer. Within each one of these pieces Murphy captures something special as he bares his soul and delivers what I would call pure musical mojo. It offers much in the way of passion and compelling-thought provoking landscape and architecture. The playing/writing and production virtuoso from Murphy is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable.

CD is too short. Most composers have to start somewhere as their sound will no doubt evolve and grow over time. It’s safe to say the best Shane Murphy is yet to come.

I see Vacant Party feat. Shane Murphy) as a diamond in the rough, with an amazing amount of potential. As time goes by he will no doubt hear more from them. I also would be surprised to hear his music on Satellite Radio someday or even in a Commercial, Video Game or Reality TV Series. In close most famous artists out there have “it” I’m not so sure what it but Vacant Party featuring Shane Murphy has whatever “it” is.

Score: 3/5 Stars
