Timur Turlov is a Kazakhstani entrepreneur and financier, best known as the founder, CEO, and majority shareholder of Freedom Holding Corp., a diversified financial services company operating in 22 countries.
Early Life and Education
Born on November 13, 1987, in Moscow, Russia, Turlov developed an early interest in stock market investments during his school years. In 2009, he graduated from Moscow State Aviation Technological University with a degree in economics and management.
Career
Turlov began his career in 2003 as a trader at the Moscow branch of World Capital Investments (WCI), an American investment company. In 2005, he joined Yutreyd.ru, a subsidiary of Uniastrum Bank, where he facilitated access to U.S. stock exchanges. Following the 2008 global financial crisis and the subsequent closure of his unit at Uniastrum Bank, Turlov decided to establish his own company.
In 2008, he founded Freedom Finance, providing access to U.S. stock exchanges and brokerage services. Under his leadership, the company expanded into multiple countries and, in 2019, became the first financial institution from the Commonwealth of Independent States to be listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol FRHC.

Turlov is married and has six children. He has been domiciled in Kazakhstan since 2011 and became a tax resident of the country. In June 2022, he acquired Kazakh citizenship after renouncing his Russian and St. Kitts and Nevis citizenships.
