It’s hard to believe that this is a solo debut album release for Sam Kuslan because he sounds like a seasoned vet in the studio with ‘Runaway Love’. This independent artist brings to you a refreshing style that merges a wide array of musical elements & genres. Kuslan is inspired by the likes of Jamie Cullum, Sammy Davis Jr. and John Mayer along with many greats from the New Orleans tradition and classic Americana, soul and jazz scenes. ‘Runaway Love’ is an invigorating blend of music that will ignite your senses and please your musical palette.
Sam Kuslan wrote and arranged all nine songs on the new album as well as contributing vocals, guitar and piano. This multi-talented singer/songwriter invites everyone in to enjoy the original sounds of ‘Runaway Love’. I like to refer to Sam’s style as jazzy pop with a twist, which makes for one flavorful concoction. Classic and contemporary pop can be heard as Sam Kuslan creates his own voice while also honoring the greats of yesterday.
The record starts off with an upbeat number that embodies cool mojo and that would be the title track “Runaway Love”. With an infectious rhythm and catchy hook in place, “Runaway Love” is your #1 destination. Sam lyrically & vocally grabs you with his appealing tone on “(I Wanna Call Love An) Old Thing”. Nothing old-fashioned about Sam’s approach here on “(I Wanna Call Love An) Old Thing” as Sam Kuslan is keeping it all fresh. A polished sound can be heard next on “My Completeness” where clean ‘n’ classy vocals are hitting you. On the following number, “Sunshine and Roses, Sam delivers a strong performance that is shining bright and soundin’ sweet. Next, “Only You” provides a nice touch musically that is subtle yet potent while also punching in some emotional notes. A thoughtful letter in the key of “Dear God” will lift up your spirits and brighten your days. Sam Kuslan delivers a heartfelt performance on “Thought of You” that will fill you with joy and leave you with a big smile. You will be “Patiently Waiting” for a cool breeze to sail through your ear canals with ease as you consume this soothing track. Sam is ending on a high note with “Without Your Love” that is soaring high and leaving a lasting impression on listeners worldwide.
I am thoroughly impressed with Sam Kuslan’s efforts on ‘Runaway Love’ and I feel his solo career is off to a phenomenal start! This being a debut release for Sam, I can’t wait to hear where this artist will venture next. Having shared the stage with many talented acts touring in the US and Europe, Sam Kuslan’s future looks extremely promising. ‘Runaway Love’ is a breath of fresh air for today and Sam Kuslan is an artist to be on the lookout for.
