NYC Artist Jeremy Penn was asked to be the featured artist for the first ever, Freedom Week in New York. Freedom Week is a coalition of abolitionists working to raise awareness about the 27 million people currently enslaved and/or trafficked here in the U.S. and abroad.
Joining the likes of two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Nicholas Kristof, former war child turned hip-hop artist, Emmanuel Jal and many more, Jeremy Penn will be doing his part to raise awareness through his artwork. Ann Lien, the organizer of Freedom Week asked Penn if he would be willing to dedicate his time to doing the portraits of some of the survivors of human trafficking. While known for his unique approach to pop-culture portraiture, Penn replied, “When selecting subjects for a portrait, I look for a powerful image that tells a story. It is an honor to be given the responsibility of telling their stories through my art.” Freedom week will be in New York City from September 21st — September 27th.
