THE DEEP DARK WOODS DETAIL NEW ALBUM, CHANGING FACES, OUT 5/14/21.
“The air in the house is different now,” says Ryan Boldt, the creative force behind The Deep Dark Woods. Boldt’s house is now full of pets and plants, and happiness. It’s a house by the ocean, far from the rural prairie landscapes of his childhood and a defining feature of The Deep Dark Woods’ sound and lyrics. The house is also an emotional dwelling, an inner place for processing upheaval, finding new direction and making peace with the past. On Changing Faces, The Deep Dark Woods’ sixth album, Boldt works through the complications, unique to him and recognizable to many, of leaving one place for the next.

Reminder: Instrumental Duo STELLAR DEATH Release Ambient EP ‘Knowledge of Enceladus’
The band released the following statement concerning the new EP:
“First and foremost, thank you for supporting our music over the past year and for all of the great feedback on our debut album Fragments of Light. You never know what to expect when forming a new music project, and the response so far has exceeded our expectations.
We’d now like to introduce you to our new ambient EP Knowledge of Enceladus. As with our debut full-length, this music was written based on particular ideas and themes within astronomy; specifically, Saturn’s ice moon ‘Enceladus.’ We wanted to narrow our focus on this recording, and really consider the vibe and atmosphere (no pun intended) of this incredibly reflective moon. It is thought that Enceladus could even host life within its icy surface.
While this EP is mostly ambient, we are not necessarily veering in this direction overall. In fact, we are working on another full-length which ventures back to our metallic roots, delving even more into the post-progressive aspects of our debut. More to follow on this as progress is made. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy Knowledge of Enceladus.”

When someone’s having a conversation about you or with you it doesn’t mean that you have to engage with them.

People will always try and bring you down, but you gotta remember to value yourself.

“The guitar hero’s posthumous farewell salute to his fans – and how he’s hitting it off with it again!” – METAL HAMMER GER
When matchless vocalist/guitarist Alexi Laiho and guitarist Daniel Freyberg joined forces with Waltteri Väyrynen, Mitja Toivonen and live keyboardist Vili Itäpelto to form the explosive new metal pillar BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT, it was meant to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Twisting up turn-of-the-century R&B with Bossa Nova bliss, the UK singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist daydreams about girls who aren’t afraid of fistfights, tackles heartache without fear, and muses over the kind of love reserved for the big screen in her music. Dorothea Paas (ffo The Weather Station, Bernice, U.S. Girls) | Shares new single, “Container”
This new album is in part birthed from Doro’s own push/pull relationship with the church, Paas initially felt uncomfortable about religion’s utilising of music to control people and their emotions – now, however, Paas wants to tap into that idea, questioning the power and ability that music has to cause transcendence. Her lyrics, whilst being pretty straightforward, offer some compelling and unique observations – “Container”, for example, is a track built (or homed) around the C chord which reminisces on home and recurring feelings that can also feel too familiar sometimes, in this case, anxiety, something that Dorothea has always struggled with. Dorothea wrote the track as something a love song to her own anxiety – it draws on some lovely Joni Mitchell Hejira sounds to me, coupled with Grouper and Fairport Convention.

The band comments: ”Built like a crescendo, this song evokes the war that each individual must wage against mediocrity, against ideologies, against the dismantling of the world, against guilt, against everyone, against himself. This war cannot be won, but the perpetual struggle makes it possible to never admit defeat, and to cultivate one’s singularity, even if it means finding oneself alone facing the abyss. We are born to hurt each other.”

Oh the Humanity! “Never Worse” Music Video
Here’s your last sneak peek at the upcoming Oh the Humanity! LP before it releases this April. “Never Worse” might be a bpm or two slower than their previous two singles but it still packs a lot of punch. The clean guitar work in the verses instantly stands out and makes each chorus pop even more. Oh and there’s a gang vocal section. Stay for the gang vocals. The band worked with Justin Owens (Animation) & Aaron Marinel (Videography) to put together a very unique music video for the song. “‘Never Worse’ is a song about bad habits and not being able to get out of your own way. In the video, our protagonist (or antagonist depending on how you look at it) represents this both in their actions and in their physical form. The worse their behavior gets, the more their form changes into something unrecognizable and negatively impacts those around them.”

A master of lilting melodies and emotional songcraft, $NOT excels at expressing the pain he feels inside. In “Life,” a highlight from his 2020 Beautiful Havoc album, a vulnerable and philosophical struggle $NOT opens up about the everyday struggle. Directed by Omar Jones, the song’s new video illustrates $NOT’s inner conflict with visual panache, dramatizing how his demons disrupt his search for inner peace. The video alternates images of the 22-year-old artist brooding in his bedroom on a rainy night with shots of him taking in the natural landscape–though he looks to run from his problems, he can never truly escape them. “Life” is the latest in a line of quality videos from Beautiful Havoc, most recently the Denzel Curry-featuring “Sangria.”

On songs like ‘The Problem’ and ‘Lukewarm Lover’, Kittermaster is able to express some of the more difficult, confusing aspects of human relationships in a lucid, plain-spoken way. That makes her songs, even in their most downcast moments, a study of resolve, strength and triumph. THE HIRSCH EFFEKT Share Music Video For EP Title Track ‘GREGÆR’ – OUT NOW
“We wrote GREGÆR together as a three-piece last year before our ‘Corona-Tour’ in Germany,” says guitarist and singer Nils Wittrock. “Preliminary the writing process, we already chose to lay a fundament that would serve well and leave enough space for the upcoming orchestral arrangements of Anthony Williams. Lyrically, the song thematizes areas of conflict. On the one hand the personal resentment and frustration due to the Covid-19 pandemic and on the other hand the resentment and frustration over those forming in the anti-government ‘Querdenker’-movement in Germany – a movement that either denies the existence of the virus or rejects the government measurements taken against it.”
