We make music about growing up. With “Focus Up,” we learned that age can make someone ruthless.
It can be difficult to keep friendships intact as we grow. With more responsibility, comes the need to make more selfish decisions. “Focus Up” was written after my best friend made a choice that broke my heart. I don’t blame him though. He had to do what was right for him.
My favourite lyric is the second line: “Listening to John and you.” I’m talking about listening to John Coltrane and my friend’s SoundCloud in one whiskey-fueled listening session. It reminds me of him, and Montreal.

“Someday” came to life at Coffey’s studio in Orlando, Florida and co-producer, Rex Schnelle, completed tracking and instrumentation in Nashville, Tennessee. Coffey sang all the lead vocals and background vocals at his Orlando studio sending digital files to Schnelle, who mixed the project in Nashville.

Growing up in East Germany Paul Kalkbrenner only had access to five TV channels, three from the West and two from the East. Of the programs on the Western channels he was only allowed to watch Sesame Street, which he watched daily at 6pm with his brother. Graf Zahl, the German name of the character known as The Count, translates literally back into English as Count Count.
