In August, he’ll release his second album of 2020, Smooth Sailing Forever. Mostly recorded during the lockdown, Smooth Sailing Forever sparkles, caresses and is riddled lyrically and moodily with signs of these very weird and worrisome times. So it goes . . .

Norwegian experimental-pop throat singer, Sturle Dagsland (Iceland Airwaves, Tallinn Music Week, Big Thief support) – Shares Single / Announces Debut LP
Sturle and his brother Sjur put together the record between themselves over the last couple of years, using over 40 different and unique instruments to create this sound – more details on these in the press release, but they include Zimbabwean finger harps, Armenian duduks and Norwegian billy goat horns – whilst exploring an array of different themes such as their mother’s indigenous Norweigian ancestry and Norse Paganism. To me, their sound skirts around the pop-leaning experimentalism of FKA twigs, Let’s Eat Grandma and Björk, the deathly drones of Sunn O))) and Godspeed You! Black Emperor and the ferocious intensity of Death Grips, securing tips previously from The Quietus, Drowned in Sound and Vice. Sturle’s played some pretty neat shows before too, with his first US date opening for Big Thief in Brooklyn and further festival spots at Iceland Airwaves, SXSW, Tallinn Music Week, etc.
