Japanese electro pop artist Funny Fractures releases debut EP
‘I made the song with, in my mind, the images I had after watching the episode “San Junipero” of the Netflix’ dystopia Black Mirror. Musically, I’ve also been inspired by the psych-pop of Caribou, and Odesza’s electro-pop. “Longing” is a love song that depicts the painful feelings which can arise from the complexity of telling the difference between real and fake. It has this message that, no matter real or fake, the beauty of something like a sea landscape won’t change.’ Koji Shibano
On “Longing”, the third track on Funny Factures’s debut EP “Fake City”, production and lyrics are handled by Yuto Uchino, frontman and self-producer of the indie band The fin. That might explain why “Longing” is much more on the pop side than other works from Funny Factures, with a single-tone synth melody that sticks so easily in your head.
Maxwell Stern Unveils New Single Featuring Laura Stevenson From Upcoming LP on Lauren Records
Lauren Records is unveiling a new single from Maxwell Stern’s debut solo album, Impossible Sum today. The track features Laura Stevenson and is titled “Left In The Living Room.”
It’s a song about past and present partnerships, and what it means to show gratitude to someone. Some days it’s effortless and other days you get so bogged down by the day-to-day that you forget to be thankful. As evidenced by the Weakerthans-influenced twang of “Left In The Living Room”, Impossible Sum really is different than anything Max has done before. It’s a departure from his emo and pop-punk roots; a collection of songs that exist outside of genre, as if he were contributing to the Great American Songbook.
