New Holy Hive Album “Float Back To You”

Homer Steinweiss, the Brooklyn based soul/funk drummer, always had a soft spot for folk music. Paul Spring, a young idealist folk singer traveling the country with his guitar, always had a beautiful falsetto in his back pocket. A family introduction would lead to Homer producing a few solo records of Paul’s, which would eventually lead to the creation of Holy Hive. The two enlisted Joe Harrison on bass and started out recording their first tunes as a group. A tour with soul legend Lee Fields would turn out to have an unexpected effect on their sound as they played their material to crowds of soul fanatics looking to dance. It was this realization that forced the next step in their evolution and gave birth to a sound unique to Holy Hive, a sound that walks a line so perfectly it necessitated a new genre, Folk Soul.

NQ ARBUCKLE RETURNS WITH “LOVE SONGS FOR THE LONG GAME,” AN ODE TO SOMETHING LIKE JOY.

Reassuringly familiar, if a little bit flashier, the longsuffering but thankful NQ Arbuckle wins another battle against the urge to cut and run with “Love Songs For The Long Game,” his first new music in six years. For an artist whose songs have always grappled, at least in part, with the panic that comes with both asking and answering the question “Why am I doing this?” NQ Arbuckle has found his place writing seafarer songs for drinking on dry land, for our labours of love large and small. These are songs to magic our straw into gold, songs to keep the dread at bay. Songs that keep promises, long after those ships have sailed.

New DELANILA single “It’s Been A While Since I Went Outside” premieres today

Created long before the current pandemic, “It’s Been A While Since I Went Outside” describes the paradoxical sense of isolation often experienced at the hands of our hyper-connection through screens—and becomes even more prescient in this collective moment of social distancing. Composer, performer and multimedia artist Danielle Eva Schwob says, “I wrote and recorded this song a while back, during a time when I was working alone a lot, connected to the outside world through TV, phone and computer screens—and feeling deeply isolated in a way that, in a horrible twist of irony, reflects what many of us in lockdown are currently experiencing.”

Mental health is a gripping mountain for so many people to climb, and this song honors that journey as well as the people who pull us up out of it. Leah adds, “‘Stand like an Oak’ is a song to remind us of our innate sturdiness and deep roots in this vital dark soil of Earth; the innate presence and stability of the Oaktree as our model and muse of calmness in the great storms.”

Today, Rolling Stone Country has premiered the album track, “Ain’t Nothin’ New.” Rolling Stone Country says, “Taking cues from Little Feat, early Elton John, and even a dash of prog rock, ‘Ain’t Nothin’ New’ opens with some chilly synthesizer swells before warming up quickly with some chromatic piano chords and splashes of brass. There’s a dazzling series of jazzy little runs between verses and a soaring, melodic slide guitar solo that leads into the final vamp.” Co-frontman Nik Lee said “This is undoubtedly the best I’ve ever felt about the music” while Daniel Creamer offered of “Ain’t Nothin’ New,” in particular, “I think it’s the perfect introduction to the sound on the new album.”

“Take a Chance” is a romantic reminder that by taking a chance with a someone, we can overcome our fears and discover something new about ourselves. Sometimes you need a little push to get you out of your comfort zone and realize what you might be missing. “Take a Chance” was the very first song I wrote for myself and I also used it as a vehicle to bring something new out of me. Listen to Devon Williams’ new single “A Tear In The Fabric” via Treble

Regarding the single, Williams stated: “In domestic bliss, there are times when you start to wonder who you really are. At a certain age, I think you start to feel more mortal, and you hold a little tighter to parts of yourself that are a little more difficult to reconcile. So, you’re basically trying to keep a part of you alive that should be dead. So, you may feel stuck. So “A Tear in the Fabric” says we can change, we can stay the same, or maybe we can just do both. And at the end of “A Tear in the Fabric” is a sample of the Clifford T. Ward song “No More Rock N’ Roll.” He’s the best at taking the everyday and commonplace and making it remarkable and romantic.”
