A Sweden-based singer/songwriter, self-taught guitarist and rising music producer with a longtime passion for creating art of various forms, music being just one of them. She first got her start in the music industry by playing gigs at local pubs and restaurants in her late teens. In 2015 she auditioned for Swedish Idol and was handed a golden ticket by the judges. Although her run in the competition was short-lived, she was happy to have made it to top 25 and never it let it discourage her from continuing to make music.

New single by Sultans of String – El Bint El Shalabeya
This very fresh arrangement of an ancient traditional Lebanese song is also a musical tribute to Dick Dale who passed away in March, 2019. Dale was known as “The King of the Surf Guitar” who drew on Middle Eastern music scales in his arrangements (his father was of Lebanese descent). Sultans of String fleshed out this arrangement with the incredible string playing of Gündem Yayli Grubu, a Turkish Roma string group in Istanbul. They also brought in Syrian refugee Majd Sekkar, Algerian mandole player Fethi Nadjem, and Greek oud player Demetrios Petsalakis, who all now find their home in Canada.

“When trapped in this relationship, I was broken,” explains Nadia Vaeh. “This song is about being stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts and behaviors.” The title is a metaphor for how the abused partner in a relationship can feel compelled to keep coming back despite their better judgment. The second verse, however, suggests a turning point, “Can’t keep this circle alive — still dizzy from the last try; time to live with no fear.” Vaeh, who was able to move away from the relationship and change her life for the better, wants to inspire others to do the same.

For the “We Cry For Harmonia” video, I wanted to make a series of animations that would take you through the music. The song itself is like riding a smooth wave through time. I wanted to make sure the visual elements had a similar feel to bring you through to the other side. This was a really fun project to work on. A few of my favourite cell animated clips came out of this. I’m really excited to see it released. Thank you Rishi and Elephant Stone for letting me be a part of this.
