Heartbreak may be one of pop music’s most familiar subjects, but the journey towards rediscovering your self-worth can be just as compelling. London-based singer-songwriter Judy Pearson explores this emotional transition on her four-track EP, “Diary of a Heartbreak (Chapter Two).” The EP follows March 2026’s “Diary of a Heartbreak (Chapter One),” which established Pearson’s affinity for confessional songwriting and richly personal narratives.
Chapter Two builds upon that foundation while noticeably changing the perspective of its central character. the project trades the vulnerability and uncertainty of a failed relationship for reflection, confidence and a healthy dose of sarcasm. Rather than dwelling on what went wrong, Pearson turns her attention towards what she has learned, delivering a collection of intimate, emotionally direct songs about reclaiming one’s sense of identity.
Opening track “Jade” introduces this newfound confidence through one of the EP’s most interesting lyrical concepts. Drawing inspiration from the durability of jade and the difficulty of carving it, Pearson imagines herself as an unforgettable presence in a former lover’s life. “Isn’t It Funny,” meanwhile, approaches the past with considerably more irony. Looking back on the sacrifices she made for someone who failed to appreciate them, Pearson explores the strange combination of disbelief and clarity that can accompany emotional recovery.
“No One Else Like Me” continues the theme of self-empowerment, imagining a former partner eventually recognizing that what they lost cannot simply be replaced.
Pearson closes out the record with, “Just A Boy,” which delivers the project’s most confrontational statement. Taking aim at emotional immaturity and the casual disregard some people show towards their partners, Pearson builds the track around a pointed, memorable refrain: “You’re not a man, you’re just a boy.”
The arrangements are the project’s standout feature, as they retain the stripped-back acoustic approach established in its predecessor. producer Jeremy Rompala, who also handled mixing and mastering, prioritizes an intimate presentation that places Pearson’s lyrics and melodies at the center.
Diary of a Heartbreak (Chapter Two) offers a thoughtful continuation of Judy Pearson’s deeply personal songwriting journey. Its strongest quality lies in the shift from vulnerability to self-assurance, captured through relatable observations and moments of unapologetic honesty. Chapter Two is an affirmation that moving forward sometimes begins with recognizing the value that was there all along.
