Unity Quartet is comprised of four members and they are: Helio Alves on Piano, Guilherme Monteiro on Guitar, Gili Lopes on Bass and Alex Kautz on Drums.  All musicians have Brazilian roots, which brings a special sort of spice to the table on ‘Samba of Sorts’.  This project originated in 2021 where original music and select covers came to light.  The result was ‘Samba of Sorts’ where Unity Quartet played from the heart with a deep love for jazz music and Brazil.

On the opening track, “Viola Violar”, the audience will receive an easy-listening, calming sensation with superb instrumentation.  With an excellent selection of solos throughout the recording, Unity Quartet is swingin’ for the fences right out of the gates on “Viola Violar”.  Next, prepare for a relaxing dose of jazz that you can enjoy with a hot cup of tea or chilled glass of wine on “Lucena”.  Unity Quartet is in the zone and playing like true champs on “Santo Antonio” where everything seems to be clicking.  Get ready for a “Frenzy” as Unity Quartet is jammin’ & jivin’ without hesitation.  “Frenzy” really POPS and is full of energetic spirit that will attract a wide audience.  Track five, “Pau De Arara”, offers up BIG, bright notes to go along with a fine arrangement and great finesse.  An inviting melody draws you in on “Jogral” and this number will instantly perk up your senses.  The title track, “Samba of Sorts” is on deck and it’s clear that Unity Quartet is shooting for the stars.  Everyone seems to be in sync on “Samba of Sorts” as Unity Quartet delivers a crowd-pleasing performance.  This musical unit is going out in style and on a soothing note on “Paloma Plage” where one will experience a polished production overall.

Unity Quartet has created a jazz record that has much depth and infectious rhythms.  ‘Samba of Sorts’ is a labor of love for all members while incorporating their deep love for Brazil and jazz music, as a whole.  There is a good balance of innovative sounds and traditional styles making ‘Samba of Sorts’ one stimulating listening experience.  Unity Quartet honors cultural heritage while also going outside the box, which is the recipe for success with this new album.  The creative juices are flowing in full force, so enjoy ‘Samba of Sorts’ by Unity Quartet.
