Chilled-out jazz licks with synthesized bliss are woven together on ParaDyce!’s aptly named “Pacific Coast.” Rhythms keep things slow, the way they do things on the West Coast. There is something nice about the gait: it emphasizes the crystal clarity of the sound. Everything works, and the melodic richness shifts from instrument to instrument. By keeping things relatively nimble, the song has this airy disposition that rolls through. For the entire thing, a peaceful meditative state emerges. No word is spoken, nor does one need to, to convey the true contentment that the sound represents.

The percussive elements take center stage for the first few moments. From there, the rest of the sound comes into view quite quickly. Bass lines are elegant, allowing the low end to feel almost supportive. Little flourishes here and there add to the tactile quality of the atmosphere. Keyboards have a delicacy, giving the songs this R&B quality. Quite expressive, the elements perfectly fall into place. Almost psychedelic at times, the dreamy, glossy finish provides the track with a sense of the infinite. Interplay amongst all the different moments and the slower rhythm dilates the passage of time, making the song feel eternal. Nods to light jazz, rock, R&B fusion like Steely Dan and G-Funk qualities enter into the fray, giving the piece this thick, immersive atmosphere.
“Pacific Coast” features a tremendous soothing wash with ParaDyce! embracing the softest elements of pop and ambient in this perfect mixture.
