Matreya Q&A Plus ‘Eagles’

After years of transformation, reinvention, and deep creative introspection, Matreya is back—with Eagles. A soaring, cinematic track infused with spirituality and rich musical influences, Eagles marks a powerful return, one that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant.

In this conversation, Matreya opens up about the journey behind the song, the ever-evolving nature of his artistry, and the unwavering connection with his fans. From the urgency that sparked the track’s creation to the boundless horizons ahead, this is a glimpse into the mind of an artist who continues to rise.

“Eagles” is finally out! How does it feel to share this song with the world?

For me, it’s like preparing a lovely meal; it takes a lot of care and attention in the kitchen, but that moment when you finally get to enjoy it makes it all worth it. It’s been a long road for me to get back to this stage, and it feels like there’s a whole new world to explore.

There’s something really cinematic and almost spiritual about this track. Was that the vision from the start, or did it just take on a life of its own?

There was no clear aim when creating this song; I just had a sense of urgency. I felt like I had to board a train that was soon to depart. It’s been a journey of following the breadcrumbs the universe left behind and then looking back and seeing the message.

Your vocals are incredible. Has this always been the style of your vocals?

The way I learned to sing was through pure mimicry, and sometimes songs call for a slightly different tone or color. It’s also influenced by how I feel within the soundscape of the music.

Your sound blends a lot of different influences—pop, soul, Afro-world. Is that just what comes naturally to you, or do you go in thinking, “I want to pull from this or that sound”?

I have periods where I consume music and periods where I create. What I’ve absorbed, infused with the energy of the times, seems to shape a particular sound or energy that I need at that moment. I also just like making music that I want to listen to.

Your fanbase has been growing fast, even before “Eagles” dropped. What’s it been like seeing all that support?

It’s been like a bed of feathers for my nervous predisposition. I do this because, despite my fears, I know this process will take me deeper into love—a deeper love for others and for myself. Without connection, we cannot function. So, anyone who supports this nodal point in creating a new sense of community is essential.

What do you hope people take away from it when they hear it?

Whatever they need in the moment. Take what you need and allow it to take you to a place where you can dream big again.

You’ve had such a wild journey in music so far from The X Factor days to now. Looking back, what’s one thing you’d tell your younger self?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Your life is your curriculum for becoming whole.

If “Eagles” is about rising above and transformation, where’s Matreya flying to next?

Another planet, another dimension of the emotional spectrum. For me, this is about mirroring different parts of my psyche back to myself.
