Reminiscent of Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse, the warmth and melancholy of Daydreams serves as the perfect first outing for Tagoe’s velvety yet powerful sound. Tagoe’s soulful voice stirs up an intimate sense of longing as her lyrics confront a painful memory of unrequited love: “My memories ever changing / All my pretty daydreams fade away”. Lindsteadt’s guitar playing and production create a soundscape similar to a Wes Montgomery jazz ballad, with ribbons of modern ambient R&B gently drifting throughout.
Daydreams is a catharsis for anyone who has created intricate fantasies which were later torn away. The depth of feeling in Tagoe’s yearning tones on the chorus draw the listener in to feel the crashing pain of getting caught up in delusion. Writing and performing the song has brought her closer to accepting the pain of being “too much but never enough” for someone.
Originally from Canada with a background in musical theatre performance, Tagoe has immersed herself in growing as a songwriter and solo vocalist while traveling around Australia for much of the past two years. She has performed at venues around the country, including sets in Byron Bay, a beloved beach town famous for its indie music scene. Tagoe continues to write, record and hone her craft as she introduces her voice to the world.
