Berlin-based post-punk band Personality release their debut single ‘Gangrene’ today. Furious, fast, and brimming with – you guessed it – personality, Gangrene scratches the punk itch for a generation of angry young people disillusioned with the state of the world, sad about the direction in which it’s going, and unable to find their place within it.

Personality is a post-punk band formed in Berlin in 2023 consisting of Chilean bassist Valeska Uribe, Dutch drummer Wessel van der Velde, and British guitarist and singer James Matthew Alston. Using demos written by James over more than ten years as a springboard, the power trio makes fast, driving punk music, complemented by intricate time signatures and James’s charged spoken-word vocals. With influences ranging from 70s post-punk, 90s skate punk and the garage rock revival, Personality put on an angry, danceable, live show – but nonetheless don’t take themselves too seriously.
