Jazz Artist Jackson Mathod Releases New Explosive Single ‘Mandible’

Jazz artist Jackson Mathod proves that the school ‘Runner-Up Young Musician of the Year’ to performing with Stormzy to releasing your EP pipeline is very much real!

Jackson Mathod is releasing his brand-new EP Studio Natives Vol. 1 Nov 29th, 2024. Ahead of its release, Mathod is releasing the EP’s second single Mandible Oct 2nd. Beginning with a play on the iconic Jaws ‘duh-dum’, the song bursts to life with Mathod’s weapon of choice – the trumpet. Electric keys shine in more subdued sections of the single that in turn give way back to explosive trumpet solos that battle it out with a full band at their eclectic best.

As Jackson describes the trumpet, “I’ve always loved how diverse an instrument it is. Whether it’s the general timbre of the instrument or the fact that it can be played in so many different genre’s and contexts. Everyone knows the trumpet. The piano is definitely my second love even though I’m not really much of a player these days. I’ll never forget listening to Bill Evans for the first time and just falling in love with the sound of his voicings and harmony. It’s the main instrument I use when I’m writing music.”

Mandible follows on from the release of the EP’s first single Watermelon Man which has already seen anticipation for the project rise. To date, Jackson Mathod has been featured across BBC London, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, Soho Radio, and joined Stormzy for an iconic headliner performance on Glastonbury’s main stage.

Mandible will be available across all platforms Oct 2nd and the full Natives Vol. 1 EP will be available Nov 29th.
