Ultra-Lite Unveils New Single and Video!

People tend to hear what they like in Ultra-Lite. Whether it’s your friend in the Jawbreaker shirt saying they sound like Get-Up Kids, or someone’s older sister saying they sound like Third Eye Blind, there’s something undeniably likable about Ultra-Lite’s music. If you ask the band about their sound, they simply describe it as “New Alt,’ and that’s a good way to think about it.

Jimmy Whispers Shares “True Love Is Freedom” from Whitney-produced LP

Last month, 8 years on from his celebrated debut, Jimmy Whispers announced his sophomore LP, The Search For God. The Chicago scene staple, who legendary critic Jessica Hopper once called the city’s “greatest homegrown musical enigma,” has now relocated to LA and his new LP (recorded with his longtime friend Ziyad Asrar of the band Whitney) will be released on June 9th. Since making his move out west, Jimmy has embarked on a blossoming new career as a music video director and filmmaker, and today he is sharing a second single from his new LP entitled “True Love Is Freedom,” accompanied by a video that he made with his friend and fellow musician/music video director Geneva Jacuzzi. To mark the release, the pair have spoken to each other about their work across mediums for Talkhouse.

Fly Through LUNAR’s (ft. members Witherfall, Helion Prime) Magic World With The Progressive Instrumental “For My Next Trick” Off “The Illusionist”

California’s Lunar have recently released their fourth album “The Illusionist” featuring album guests Jørgen Munkeby (Shining), Christian Münzner (Obscura), Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Taylor Washington (Paladin), Sam Vallen (Caligula’s Horse), Ben Karas (Thank You Scientist), Gleb Kanasevich, and Patrick Corona. The nine-track album takes the listener through the life of a magician as he confronts the choices in life and offers a metaphor for those who also question their path. They have created a listening video for the serene, instrument track “For My Next Trick”. Written by bassist Ryan Price, the low end plays a prominent part in this track and it signifies the calm before and after the storm where the main character has an idea for one last epic trick to pull and finally feels a sense of peace. The band goes into detail:

[Single] Copywrite – Want To Three For (Instrumental)

“This beat is an ode to one of my favorite beats, groups and producers all in one. Can you guess why? You’ll have to because I’m not telling. This beat has a few different parts that hype me up and a few parts that make me laugh for inside reasons. I wonder if the chic moaning will recognize her voice? Doubt it. There are plenty of beats on #YGK that I could have picked for the single to this thing but this had a lot going on and a fun but evil energy which sums me up in a nutshell. So here it is; the second single off of my debut instrumental album called “Ya Garbage Kid”. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I did making it. Of course I was on copious amounts of weed when I was making that so you have an uphill battle. At any rate, Enjoy!” – Copywrite

DIVE BARS & BROKEN HEARTS: Michael Ray + Michael Knox Finishing Up Anticipated EP

“I took some time to really think about what I wanted,” says Michael Ray, who’s spent the last year balancing road shows and songwriting appointments. “When you strip it all back, think about what really matters to you, you cut away a whole lot of reasons that should never drive your music.

“I’m a kid from central Florida, raised singing at the Sunshine Opry, playing Froggers, turning it up when Jones, Hank Jr. and later Montgomery Gentry hit the dial. I like the ones who hit their country straight up and hard. I knew one guy who makes that kind of country, Michael Knox.”

Jules elaborates: “In “Big Plans” I explain how my behaviors are acting as a catalyst for distance, even though I long to be out in the world and with the people I love. I have always been introverted, even a recluse during some lower points in my life, but when I listen to or sing this song – especially the chorus – there is this ephemeral glimmer of light airy hope, and it feels good. I hope when others listen to this song, they can catch that feeling and hold onto it as long as they can.

Hozier announces intimate show at London’s Electric Ballroom & releases video for new single ‘Eat Your Young’…

Written by Hozier and co-starring actress Ivanna Sakhno, the visual follows a theatre piece consisting of two stages working in tandem with one another: one stage, viewed by adults, on which the characters lose something as they engage with their world, and another stage, watched by children, where that which has been lost becomes visible.

In speaking about the video, Hozier says: “I want to thank the incredible Ivanna Sakhno for bringing her talent, skill, and care to this piece. The marvelous Jillian Meyers for keeping us all in step and the wonderful Han of Handsome Devils Puppets for recreating Ivanna and me for the stage. Thank you also to Jason Lester, our wonderful director, and Laura at Our Secret Handshake. I hope you enjoy our little horror story :)”

LA’s Arwen Lewis Shares “Black Moon” in Advance of New EP

Technically, Arwen Lewis inhabits our blue planet, but so much about her believes and belongs in the celestial realm. First and foremost, her earthily angelic voice (just listen and you’ll know that’s not a contradiction in terms). Then there’s her her lineage: The granddaughter of Oscar-winning actress Loretta Young and the daughter of Peter Lewis, a founding member of ’60s psychedelic cult heroes Moby Grape, she’s been part of the creative cosmos all her life. So it’s no surprise that Arwen’s new EP is called Under the Stars—or that a slice of sonic heaven is poised to enter your heart, mind and soul.

On May 31, Cisco Swank will release More Better, a musically textured and sprawling record that represents the culmination of what he’s learned over years of formal training as a jazz musician and from sonic experiments like last year’s acclaimed Some Things Take Time with Chicago producer Luke Titus. A foundation of Cisco’s sound, the heavenly collaborative project’s eleven tracks weave together caffeinated, off-kilter beats, angelic chord progressions, dusty bebop motifs, and a palette of sonic flourishes, complete with features Saba, Femdot, Braxton Cook, and Malaya, and additional production and vocals from Phoelix.
