A whirling, fever dream cocktail of otherworldly psychedelia, maximalist hyperpop, ambient textures and skittering, hypervigilant beats, ‘Shook’ is arguably the most singular work to date from an artist who has always been eager to expand music’s boundaries. Navigating past the 8-minute mark, the entirely self-produced ‘Shook’ toys with elements that are at turns sweet, hypnotic and jarring, racing from frenzied catharsis through to pure ecstatic abandon. It’s no retread of the kaleidoscopic sounds that Guillemots so elegantly crafted, but its spirit, vision and ambition comes from a similar place.

This announcement comes with the release of new single ‘White Pearl’; a soft, yet glitched out lullaby where the listener hears Charles battling with his insecurities as he pleads with his balding head, ‘Oh White Pearl. Won’t you rest a little while more?’ Charles on the single: “The song is a plea to my balding head, the white pearl, to basically go away. I’m pretty vain, so I don’t like the fact that I’m balding, but I think the only thing that could make that fact worse is if I didn’t have a sense of humour about it. One day the white pearl will come for me, for all of us.” The single release comes with accompanying video, directed by Mateo Villanueva Brandt and Charles Stooke aka Me, Charles. “The main reaction I wanted to evoke was a sort of ‘what the fuck am I watching’ kind of feel, and so far we seem to have achieved that” adds Charles.
