‘Hot Summer’ sees the band incorporate novel brass and woodwind elements into their signature pastoral arrangements, brought about by a chance encounter with a saxophonist on a summer’s evening. The breezy, earworm of a track invokes a sense of halcyon nostalgia, gently rising to a crescendo and a big brass flourish to underpin its bittersweet nature. Nashville Duo Jaye Madison To Release Debut EP March 31
Originally from Lumberton, TX, Jaye Madison grew up singing and performing in community theater. They were surrounded by country, folk, blues, and classic rock listening to everything from Elvis, Willie Nelson, Etta James, and The Judds to The Eagles, Heart, Chicago, Janis Joplin, and Fleetwood Mac. But they didn’t even write their first song until they headed to Nashville after they were accepted into the Commercial Voice program at Belmont University. Being surrounded by such talent forced them to either step up or give up and they weren’t about to give up. “When you’re in Nashville you’re a songwriter and musician first,” says Madison. “No one asks you what your day job is even though everyone has one…and probably two others. There’s a charming steeliness to the artists in town who have had to not only fight for opportunities but their individuality as writers and performers. It challenges you. It humbles you. It makes you face your ego.”

Those who’ve been following the trajectory of modern-day guitar hero Chris Shiflett—outside of his role in Foo Fighters—will already know of his musical mission to unite his SoCal rock roots and Nashville influences to create a fresh new sound altogether. In his latest installment, the longtime country-influenced-rocker called upon a couple of Nashville’s finest practitioners of rock-influenced-country, Jaren Johnston (The Cadillac Three) and John Osborne (Brothers Osborne), to join in on his brand new single, “Black Top White Lines.” In their initial writing session, the trio kept throwing in line after line until the story was mapped out. Without spoiling the ending for anybody, Shiflett hints, “Thematically it felt like it turned a classic Country trope on its head a little.”

The song was initially about a romantic relationship, but it brought new importance to the music to recontextualize it using our relationship with our audience and with live music in general. We love touring and we are very lucky to have our first headline tour EVER coming up this spring!!! We’re so excited to play all over the US. “‘Tongue Shred’ came together so easily and naturally that we felt like we really had something once it was finished,” explains bed signs’ co-founder and multi-instrumentalist Chris Lonon. “‘Tongue Shred’ is the first song that we wrote in what I consider a ‘backward’ style. I had never written a song where the music did not come first and the melodies and lyrics last. This song is the total opposite. I wrote and arranged all the music around Casey’s melodies and lyrics that she sent to me in an iPhone voice memo. The emotional rawness of that original iPhone recording is so cool that it made it onto the final track, juxtaposed against the studio recording.”

The song is a homage to her late father, inspired by a historic settlement building in New York’s East Village that is inextricably interlinked with her paternal lineage. Tricca’s great uncle, an artist in New York, had painted the 16-story building in the 1930s. When she stood outside its perpendicular lines in the summer of 2019, she was struck by this unusual orbit so many years later, standing in the same spot as her predecessor, coming to the profound realization that she had come full circle.
