Clever Hopes

The duo’s new single, “Shadow Waltz,” is a gentle piece of Americana featuring Shaver and Foote’s soft vocal harmonies, woven together by a reflection on Shaver’s time spent in Australia following the dissolution of a relationship.

“It’s about that conflict you can feel when you know things are changing and you need to say goodbye to who you were without fully understanding who it is you are becoming,” explain Clever Hopes.

JJJJJerome Ellis Premieres ‘The Clearing’ via The Wire

With The Clearing, JJJJJerome Ellis establishes a new metaphor that frames speech dysfluency—stuttering in particular—as a space for possibility rather than a pathology; and centers speech as a starting point to not only depathologize dysfluent speech but to build new tools to critique anti-Blackness, linear time, culture, and power in our society. First introduced in his 2020 essay “The clearing: Music, dysfluency, Blackness and time” in The Journal of Interdisciplinary Voice Studies, Ellis presents “The Clearing” as a concept that challenges us to reimagine dysfluency in speech and question how speech and articulation impact how we exist in the social realm. Recorded in various bedrooms over the course of several months and setting the text of Ellis’s essay to music, The Clearing is a haunting and expansive series of reflections on the questions of speech, articulation, and the power behind both. Ellis says of the project: “I hope this album offers the listener some of what my stutter offers me: an opportunity to imagine new ways of being in time.”

The Tragically Hip present nostalgic 1990s inspired music video for “Saskadelphia” hit “Not Necessary” | Starring Emily Hampshire, directed by Sara Basso

The Tragically Hip release the official music video for “Not Necessary,” off their album, Saskadelphia, which went to #1 in Canada. A Revolver Films production, starring actress Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek,” “Chapelwaite”), directed by Sara Basso, and produced by Emily Smillie, the music video lands as a prequel to the compelling visuals for lead single “Ouch.” Inspired by “Something Wild,” “Thelma and Louise,” and “Run Lola Run,” the video is in part a love letter to the period marking the band’s sophomore album, Road Apples (1991), and drops ahead of the next wave of new material from this storied period in the band’s history.

Cregan, who helms lead vocals on “Bunny Man,” says: “I know it’s kind of over the top sentimental, but who gives a fuck? These people are the best. Bunny Man is our tour manager, guitar tech, driver, photographer and great friend–he goes to extreme lengths to help people out. When I sent him the demo of the song he said that he cried happy tears, and that made me so happy. He’s had a really tough couple of years because of the lack of gigs, so if this song got him to feel good for a moment, then that’s all that matters to me.”
