Farruko Tells a Border Story in Corrido-Inflected “Baja Cali” Video

Puerto Rico-born superstar Farruko is one of the most versatile artists in Latin music, incorporating the sounds of the music that he loves into his vast sonic tapestry. Taking a trip to the sandy hills that mark the border between Mexico and California, Farruko shares “Baja Cali,” his latest music video. The song takes inspiration from “corridos tumbados,” the red hot genre that mixes traditional guitars with 808s and trap beats. Farruko tells a story from the point of view of a Tijuana cartel boss, mixing in true details from his own life with the kind of braggadocious boasts of illicit dealings common in corridos.

Marco Benevento “At The End Or The Beginning” | New Single Out Today

“Where are we? At the end or the beginning? It’s been a strange few years not being able to hug our close friends or play shows and to see so many people struggling from this pandemic that came out of nowhere,” says Benevento. “So the idea was inspired by what we’ve all been living through. The lyric says it all, we can’t wait for the clouds to lift up for us…this one time.”

ORSON WILDS ANNOUNCE WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WON’T LET GO? EP

Elaborating on the new single, Orson Wilds’ vocalist / guitarist Eric Reid explained, “Depression is something I’ve struggled with for a lot of my adult life and it can be debilitating and it can make the easiest everyday things super difficult. It comes in waves and those waves can come in different sizes. The big waves can be pretty scary sometimes and I’m fortunate to have a support system with my friends and family that I can talk to about these things. ‘a hundred million things’ is a song about one of my friends that lost his battle with depression. He worked in law enforcement and as a result had pretty fucked up PTSD. I can’t imagine the tsunami he was faced with every day that eventually led him to make the last choice he would ever make. It’s a song about wishing you could say more and coming to terms with never truly being able to understand another person’s struggle no matter how much you can relate to it.”

End of the World

Although “End of the World” isn’t Gulfer’s first pandemic song, it’s their first that explores our collective adaptations to new realities. Over intricate call and response guitars that seem to fold in on themselves, Vincent Ford sings of themes parallel to the end of the world: selective memory holes; playing with fire without a care for consequence; and finding your own new ways to cope and just get through the day. End times be damned, “End of the World” is decidedly more melodic than punk, with hooks that demonstrate the band’s ability to write songs on any part of the experimental rock spectrum. Its keenly constructed rhythms keep Gulfer’s compositions unpredictable and inventive, perhaps a figurative mirror in which the band can optimistically see a way out of the impending end of the world.

Limerick based Psych-Bedroom Pop polymath Martian Subculture announces debut album || shares new single ‘Bumblebees’

‘Bumblebees’ is the first taste of Martian Subculture’s leftfield, lo-fi world, combining psychedelic rock with melodic vocals that could be described as bedroom-pop Beatles. Speaking on the track, he adds “This is one of the first songs in the making of this album where I found the Martian pop sound I’ve been searching for for years. Lots of Casio and Akai S20 on this. It’s a collage of different styles, which I imagine a band playing in some pub on mars in a sci-fi movie. Played with instruments that are unrecognisable, but still come across as a ‘song’ overall.”

Muzi releases video for ‘Juice’ and announces North America Tour

Muzi flexes his falsetto on ‘Juice’, a track that brings in smooth indie disco with a touch of house and afrobeats – a sound reflective of Muzi’s eclecticism on the album. INTERBLAKTIC continues Muzi’s journey through African space exploration, a theme his 2018 album Afrovision delved into, while introducing Muzi’s alias, The Zulu Skywalker. Though there are overlaps with the Afrofuturism movement, Muzi’s INTERBLAKTIC is rooted in the now, and his insistence that we must deal with the past and present before we can lose ourselves in a future fantasy.

Silvering, “Same Side,” OUT NOW ON SPOTIFY

“Though Shalom Toy captures this exact frustration on “Same Side,” her latest single as Silvering, she explores these ideas with impressive grace—the track sounds vaguely lenient on Radiohead or even Coldplay in the same way IAN SWEET’s music is, while Toy’s longing vocals recall those of Soccer Mommy. All of which is written out in an intentionally honest light, with Toy’s heartfelt lyrics pairing well with dramatic string arrangements courtesy of Collin Dupree.” – FLOOD
