UK PUNK PROGENITORS THE STRANGLERS RELEASE NEW VIDEO/SINGLE “IF SOMETHING’S GONNA KILL ME (IT MIGHT AS WELL BE LOVE)” IN ADVANCE OF STUDIO ALBUM
Wanting to work with the next generation of creative innovators, The Stranglers put out an open brief to filmmakers – instantly Oramas’ arresting tale of an elderly couple still very much in love at the end of the world leapt out of all the pitches for its poise and poeticism. In storyboarding the idea, it expanded into something even more complex; the heartbreak of parents losing their children to war, the futility of conflict in a post-nuclear age, and how our worldview is shaped by the media we consume.
Beloved booking agent, #1 parent, and multi-instrumentalist, Sean Padilla a.k.a. The Cocker Spaniels spent a year recording his latest batch of songs, The Cocker Spaniels Are Still Alive And So Are You -due out via Evil Island Fortress on August 13th 2021. Combining elements of punk, shoegaze, power-pop, homemade field recordings, and funk, The Cocker Spaniels Are Still Alive And So Are You is both inspiring and cathartic. Essentially a solo album, though Padilla’s kids did sit in on some tracks (check out “Rice” and “Prepared Xylophone”), the album works as a snapshot of American life during some of the weirdest, darkest few years in recent memory.
The Accidentals Release “Slow and Steady” Today, 2nd Single Off Album, Vessel, Out October 1
Katie wrote “Slow and Steady” on the way home from a super long tour in a massive snowstorm. “My parents had called to let me know my childhood dog, Maggie, was passing away and I just wanted to get home in time to say goodbye. The road never felt so long. As Michael plowed through the Northern Michigan white-out, I kept telling myself ‘slow and steady, you still have time.'”
VAN HOUTEN release lilting LoFi slacker-pop tune ‘Now And Then’
Leeds lo-fi dream rockers Van Houten announce new EP – ‘Home Alone Pt. 2’ – for September 10th via CLUE Records, and share the latest woozy cut from it, ‘Now And Then’.
Self-described as “slacker pop with a cherry on top”, Van Houten perfectly encapsulate hazy, lackadaisical summer evenings with their languid sound. Layering warm, tape-warped guitars against gently hushed vocals, watery organs and lilting guitars it heralds the gentle psychedelia of a Chris Cohen or Mac Demarco.

Jensen kicked off the year with his single “2019” with Georgia Ku and followed up by linking up with a triumvirate of in-demand producers Rompasso, FAULHABER and JONASU for “Make My Mind Go.” These continue in the same vein as recent times, with last year’s singles such as his collaboration with Imbanek on “I’m Just Feelin’,” and “Don’t Cry For Me” with Jason Derulo and Alok, lighting the fire for what has been a stellar 18 months for the Danish artist.

Melodic metal quintet The Raven Age have shared their newest single ‘As The World Stood Still’ via Explore1 Music Group/EX1 Records. The track, a derivative on ‘The Day The World Stood Still’ from the band’s 2019 album Conspiracy, forgoes The Raven Age’s brazen bassline and drum kicks in favour of a stripped back acoustic backing. The song takes on a vulnerable new sound, showcasing a side of the metal band that isn’t often put on display. ‘As The World Stood Still’ was released alongside an animated lyric video which fans can check out now here.
