David Duchovny To Release Third Album Gestureland August 20th

August 20th (GMG/King Baby). The set is the follow-up to Every Third Thought (2018) that All Music called “eloquent, alt-rock-kissed country-folk in the vein of Wilco and the Wallflowers.”

Gestureland builds on the musical and lyrical themes of its predecessor while exploring some new territory as heard on the first single ‘Layin’ On The Tracks.’ Duchovny felt passionately about putting a song out around the election as the country braced. It premiered on Rolling Stone.com and of the track he says: “I just wanted to go on record in a way that was both personal and political.” The songwriting for Gestureland is indeed a mix of political and personal exploring how people are more immersed in a virtual world, everyone making gestures rather than truly connecting.

Goldford’s recent singles ‘Dreams Of Summertime’ and ‘Ride The Storm’ have demonstrated the artist’s whole-hearted approach to writing: songs that chart deeply personal tales of life’s challenges, but crafted in a way that’s universal enough for people to connect them to their own experiences. They’re brought to life by a voice that’s clearly lived through everything he sings about, a voice with a tender, velvety soul but also a gravelly tenacity.

Fueled By Ramen band The Front Bottoms have released a new single “Voodoo Magic.” The track is available today on all streaming platforms with an accompanying animated music video streaming on The Front Bottoms’ YouTube channel.

“Day in, day out. The same old voodoo follows us about,” remarked The Front Bottoms’ Brian Sella and Mathew Uychich.

José González stands up for reason and against dogma on new song/video, “Head On”

“I wrote ‘Head On’ as a combat song or a list of instructions…a manual. I mean both ‘straight ahead’ and head ON – as in switching on your mind,” says González. “It was inspired by Fela Kuti’s ‘Zombie’ and the way I used to write lyrics for my hardcore band. It’s also in the vein of my song ‘What Will’ from 2015. That one and this one are both anti-dogma, pro reason songs. Some of the terms I use like ‘rent seeker’ or ‘value extractor,’ are from books on economics that I’ve been reading, like The Value of Everything by Mariana Mazzucato.”

LIP TALK Deals With Deception On New Video/Single “Bargain Day”

LIP TALK–the solo moniker of Sarah K. Pedinotti, an experimental pop producer, multi-instrumentalist, and singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York—today, shared her new single and music video “Bargain Day”. “It depicts a world in which ‘living on the outside’ is unachievable and the fantasy of counterculture life is instantly subverted, and woven back into the matrix” says Pedinotti, “Bargain Day is about the façade of equity and the ways in which inequality, exploitation and illusion are built into the core of American capitalism. When every day is bargain day, the bargains become vampires, sucking our attention, feeding off our longings with promises of happiness. It’s a satirical song. And I love Josh Karpeh’s (of Cautious Clay) sax solo.”

“This song is important because of how relatable it is. We are all still dealing with the effects of the pandemic, whether you are still living in lockdown like in Toronto, or you are experiencing the aftermath of the shift in culture that took place as a result. Covid-19 has affected us all. I wanted to create a song that shed light on this so none of us felt alone in trying to get through it.”

The track is a dark and atmospheric thrill ride that takes aim at the negativity people encounter in everyday life.

“People who waste your time and energy are day erasers,” says DOPESICK mastermind Adam Albright. “‘Day Eraser’ has a hypnotic heaviness to it like Hannibal Lecter to your face.”
