Poolside brings in summertime with new ‘High Season’ LP out today

HIGH SEASON features the latest singles “Losing Control” by German house music producer Satin Jackets, which Stereofox called “mesmerizing,” and yesterday’s early teaser “High Season (with Buscabulla).” Buscabulla share their excitement about the new release saying, “Poolside is a project we’ve dug for a long time. The textures, vibes and production have always been immaculate in their music. Ironically we were particularly inspired by some of their remixes, including their classic for Sade’s ‘When am I Gonna Make a Living.’ It’s a pretty cool twist of fate to now be able to put our spin a track with the Poolside name.”

Flaunting a sharp, percussive flow and lusty wordplay, DreamDoll matches Banks’ libido stride for stride on the track. “Wanna call this woman up, tell that hoe good luck/She gon’ f*ck him like she like him/I’ma f*ck him like a slut,” she raps on the infectious Sgt J-produced beat. Banks’ rhymes ring off like usual as she offers blunt commands: “Throw it in rotation, make that nigga get up on it, b*tch/Do it like you nasty, do it like you own it, b*tch.” The remix comes complete with throbbing bass, Insta-caption-worthy bars, and an instructive hook that begs to be repeated.

OUT Today: Brazil-Based Vocalist/Instrumentalist and Viral YouTuber Violet Orlandi Releases Debut with Premiere on Loudwire

She states, “High Priest Daughter was written over the darkest period of my life. I didn’t even know I was doing it but writing these songs definitely helped me exorcise some of the demons that were taking over my life at the time. I started writing the album a year before my mom passed away and finished it a year after her death. Even though the album doesn’t sound as depressing as it seems, it explores death and coming to terms with it, depression, trauma, and a healthy dose of nihilism.”

As Memorial Day weekend gets underway, the new single “Getaway Car” taps into the escapist fantasies that summer inspires. Release Alert: Venezuelan thrash titans ‘Overhate’ release new video

“‘The Penance and the Lesson’ is a song that tries to depict what luck is for everyone at certain decisive moments, the song’s aggressiveness wants to give the listener a peak at the frustration when luck, serving as our fate, doesn’t fall to our favor… Yet, if lessons are learnt out of these unfavorable situations, certain pictures can become very clear, as to how hard decisions well taken can often bring the best of outcomes. Be aware, if there’s no solution, no answer to the question or nothing you can envision, the dices fall for all, as the penance and the lesson are to resume our moments now.” – Giancarlo, Overhate

Thompson’s silky delivery style shines on “Crossfaded,” produced by Tyler Dopps, his longtime collaborator. Though the song has the makings of a feel-good record, on wax, Thompson struggles with the dynamic of a new love interest that isn’t as eager to party as hard as Thompson regularly is. It’s about more than mixing his preferred party favors when nighttime gets exciting, however. “That’s when I exist,” belts Thompson as he describes his affinity for being crossfaded, a hint that much more is at play than previously thought.

On the track, the buzzing singer and songwriter waves goodbye to an ex with clever and catchy barbs and an unshakable guitar riff. He toasts on the chantable chorus, “Cheers to a breakup song, Forever 21, I’ll party all night long,” before admitting, “The worst part is I even had to make this song!”
