Watch the incredible new video for nasimiYu’s “Secretsecret” off her upcoming album, P O T I O N S
Activist, dancer, and one-woman band, nasimiYu busts out of her 7-year hiatus with a self-produced album that radically explores the life lessons she learned in that time.
The album, P O T I O N S, stands apart from anything she’s released before because this was an entirely solo effort.
Not only is there immense vulnerability in playing every single sound on the record herself, at home in her solo quarantine. But there is also a deep honesty in the personal themes she explores — secrets, witchcraft, heartbreak, psychedelic medicine, and the unwavering devotion to shining light on one’s innermost voice.
Black Fly shares eerie, calming “Sadsap” from new album via Samedi Records (altopalo)
Rittling is an expert at creating deeply felt, cinematic pieces of music inspired by the sprawling Vermont landscape that surrounds him. You can sense the largeness – and even feel the serene quiet of it – while horns are expertly flitting around his powerful yet gravelly voice, which booms and rattles with recklessness above the intricate foundations of the track. Even the most delicate piano moments can withstand the weight of his voice and glisten all that much brighter because of it.
Australia’s Skegss Share Power Punch Single “Bush TV,”
The freewheeling clip for the final single from their new album Rehearsal, out this Friday, March 26th via Loma Vista Recordings, finds Skegss enjoying the great Australian countryside, from riding dirt bikes on Lani’s farm and hanging with Cregan’s dog Blaze, to swimming, barbecuing, and drinking beers by the fire pit. “The video was a lot of fun to make. The motorbike shots were pretty wild. I was in the back of a Ute hanging off the end with my camera whilst we were pinning it around bends and bumps. At one point I got some air which was pretty scary,” says director Kerr of the making of.

Hudu Akil’s Zac Crye Releases “Look Out Above” Lyric Video

Tristan Kasten-Krause Share’s A.I.-generated Video “From Thin Air,”
“From Thin Air” changes the mood of Potential Landscapes into something more stark and melancholy. Made of fluid hums, the track is brimming with a nostalgia that resonates with a resignation born by the bass’s echoey harmonies. The two musicians live on opposite sides of the country—Bagg in Los Angeles, Kasten-Krause in New York—but here, they make music as if they’re in the same room, obliterating distance through their intimate performance. The music they make captures the bittersweet, ephemeral nature of life.

ISLAND share new single “Everyone’s The Same” | Out now on Frenchkiss Records
“Everyone’s The Same” is the raw and direct follow up to ISLAND’s previous shimmering single “Octopus.” The contrast between the two tracks perfectly highlights the band’s unique dynamic range and risk taking in their new songwriting process. The grungy slacker slow jam begins with a deceivingly simple statement proposed softly by singer Rollo Doherty. For the next two and half minutes, distorted bass lines and chunky, to-the-point drums, ooze into your psyche while the reverb drenched lead guitar hooks you in and perfectly complements the raspy and catchy cacophony. “Everyone’s The Same” is out today via Frenchkiss Records.

Pollena (BBC 6 Music/Radio 1 tips, ffo: Girlhood, Polica) | Shares second single
“Glitter” marks the first of 2021 from Pollena who cut her teeth singing back-up vocals for the Stereogum, Line of Best Fit, 6 Music and NPR-tipped group, Girlhood when they were opening for Poliça in 2019. This new track oozes optimism and was written as a “latter stage lockdown” track, intended to mark the light at the end of the tunnel which we’re hopefully beginning to see now. “Glitter” brings about these radiant electronic textures that are somewhat in debt to the producer she worked with, Tom Andrews (Stats, Laundromat), who experimented with Prophet and Pocket Operator (sound editing apps) to create this kaleidoscopic soundscape.
Atria Shares Video for “Jazz Cigarette”
Moonbrain is the first solo album from acclaimed musician and author Travis Atria. It takes sonic cues from classic artists like Curtis Mayfield and Parliament, while remaining immersed in the present moment. Conceptually, it draws on everything from climate grief (“Jazz Cigarette”) to the Beatitudes (“Lucky”), to the oldest known song, a 3,400-year-old Sumerian hymn known as the Seikilos Epitaph (“Shine”). It is an album of heavy grooves and deep moods, modern tools and timeless feels, lush arrangements and adept musicianship.

What do surrealist painter, Hieronymus Bosch, and reggae have in common? Both artistic expressions are at the forefront of the roots-rock/reggae-inspired group Baby Boy & the Earthly Delights.
Led by the charismatic and zany Baby Boy, songs from the Earthly Delights contain halcyon guitar melodies, sultry horns, and lyrics steeped in fable, myth, nature, and the human condition.
Danny Golden Releases New Single + Video “Alien”
On April 23rd, Austin-based musician Danny Golden will release his new EP Changes, the followup to Golden’s 2018 full-length Old Love. Today, Golden released the video for the EP’s second single “Alien.” MXDWN praised the song, saying “while the lead single from Changes, ‘I Can’t Change,’ blended a Neil Young-esque chord progression and song structure with shoegaze-style dynamics, ‘Alien’ takes a more straightforward approach, allowing Golden’s storytelling to take the lead. The guitars have a wistful, compressed quality that’s reminiscent of ’80s heartland rock.”

Psych Rock Icons MONSTER MAGNET to Release Delightfully Psychotic Covers Album A Better Dystopia
When psychedelic rock icons MONSTER MAGNET got off the plane in the USA after their Powertrip tour of Europe in February 2020, they already realized that they’d dodged a bullet. The band members were all healthy, despite having spent the last week of the month-long excursion gigging overseas, and at that point, many of those countries were in total lockdown. Part two of that tour, North America, was scheduled to begin three weeks later, but the rest is history… no live music, anywhere. So, what’s a band that’s been touring regularly for 30 years to do with this newfound downtime?
