SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE DROP NEW TRACK + VIDEO “THE SERVER IS IMMERSED”
SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE has a new album ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH coming April 9th on Saddle Creek, and here’s the next single from it. Accompanied by a video cut up and edited by the band’s Zachary Schwartz, “THE SERVER IS IMMERSED” is the Philadelphia shape-shifters at their most accessible and relatable via a track that digs into the monotony of the day-to-day inspired by Schwartz’s food industry day job. The track follows the excellent first single THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN’T DO”, described by Pitchfork as “where limitless potential meets weirdo catharsis”
Toronto based psych folk band, Beams is set to release their upcoming album, ‘Ego Death’ on March 26th. The album works as a narrative cycle chronicling songwriter, Anna Mernieks-Duffield’s challenges with mental health and her journey towards self-acceptance.
The band has shared their second single, “A Flower Blossomed.” The track combines gorgeous vocal harmonies, 70s folk rock influences (think Fleetwood Mac or Cat Stevens), and some perfectly placed vibraphone.
Comprised by guitarist Charlie Hunter, saxophonist Skerik and drummer Stanton Moore, OG GAT released its debut album, ‘Mysteryfunk,’ to wide acclaim in 1999. The band evolved over the pursuant years in various configurations before eventually going dormant following its 2011 album, ‘Always Be Happy, But Stay Evil.’ In 2019, however, the original three piece line-up reunited for a handful of shows. This would also result in an afternoon spent recording at Stone Gossard’s Studio Litho in Seattle, right across the street from where the band was playing a sold out, three night run at Nectar Lounge. Ace engineer Randall Dunn was invited to document the proceedings and captured the resulting album in one magical session. Dunn would later take the tracks back to AVAST! Recording Co. for mixing.

Of “You Hear Georgia,” lead singer Charlie Starr shares, “Lyrically, the song is about the South being misunderstood. It’s obviously a rough and tumble world, and there’s a lot of bad people. But there’s a lot of good people too. It started with the idea of how people might have a preconceived opinion of you because of a thick Southern accent, then expanded into the reality of how some people just seem to have such a hard time getting along, thanks to political or religious views, or simply what part of the country you come from.”

LAPÊCHE (Brooklyn) share “Finally Trying” single + video!
About the video & single, the band states: “We wanted to visually express ourselves in a light-hearted way, which is a deviation from our usual expressionism. Our music takes deep dives into psychological waters, but we balance that heaviness with a genuine joy for what we do. So we tried to make a video that shows a contrasting side of the band. We often joke about how we should start a criminal enterprise as an F-U to power. Robbing a bank has come up, tongue-in-cheek, more than once. Intentions to be joyful and do things you love, within that structure and even when things don’t ‘work out’, can be an act of defiance and even service. The lyrics, which at times run counter to the video narrative, touch on accepting and inspiring positive action. And to us, drive home the belief that the tendency we have to make things harder than they need to be, doesn’t tend to serve us or others.”

“Astral Humming” highlights the more psychedelic folk leanings of Athens, Georgia-based indie rock outfit Lo Talker. Written as “a reminder to never get comfortable with what I think I know,” says vocalist and songwriter Andrew Shepard, “Astral Humming” is a countrified indie folk song that refracts the merry prankster-like humor that threads through the various passages of Lo Talker’s captivating debut, A Comedy Of Errors. Produced by Kevin Ratterman of Jim James, My Morning Jacket, Strand Of Oaks fame, the song swirls with reverberant pedal steel and shimmering harmonies, culminating in a languid acoustic jam awash in shoegazing synthesizers.
