Whether musicians are in a studio or sitting on the sofa at home during the pandemic, they need to make sure careful documentation is kept of what they write and record, and that the documentation is safely stored.
Efforts to store recording files and credit notes can be haphazard, leaving some musicians and songwriters to learn too late that their hard work went unrecognized and uncredited, says Deborah Fairchild, president of Nashville-based VEVA Sound (vevasound.com), which verifies and archives projects for clients in the music industry. “The bottom line is that without accurate credits, you cannot be paid for your participation in any project,” she says.
“As the industry evolves in this new normal, remote recording has become more of a trend,” Fairchild says. “That makes it perhaps more important than ever that everyone who creates music should have a streamlined way to ensure that their credits are accurate and their files are safe at every stage of the creative process.”
“We believe the best way to manage the nightmare of file and credit management is to collect the information at the time you are creating, whether you are writing a song or making a recording,” she says. “If there is a process in place to easily collect files and credits from the beginning of a project, the chances of inaccurate credits or missing files decreases drastically.”

Young Clancy Drops New Track “MIGHT COULD”
I made the initial instrumental with Gray Rowan at his studio. I remember it was the night we found out that the NBA season was cancelled because of COVID… probably the last time I would be in the studio with someone else for several months… Just before or after the proper lockdown started, I sent Chris the instrumental with a few vocal ideas. It took him a while, understandably, to get back. I was so happy when he did. As with everyone on the project, it was special to see him for the video shoot after only communicating virtually for the last six months or so. The timing worked so we were able to come by a week or two before Toronto went into lockdown again. He has one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen.

Regarding the backstory of the song & video, Eli stated: As some of you may know there have been zero Real Numbers songs not written by me. This one right here was co-written with Cameron Soojian so it’s a first and I am very proud and excited that you get to hear it today. Its inception was a demo Cam recorded at home that was almost lost forever, featuring the chords, vocal melody and “In The End” lyric which I then arranged and added the rest of the words. Lead guitar is also Cam with Ian moving to bass guitar. The video was shot “pandemic-safe,” in separate locations at different times, tied together with Gordon Byrd’s expert editing and production. Key (to the shoot) was an old rotating Christmas light meant to illuminate a metallic tree purchased a few Christmases ago in Milwaukee, WI.
